TurboSpartan - 4x4 CO Thread

Similar to Bit50's Off-Road Adventure Thread, but probably not going to get into as much "hardcore" stuff as he does.

I have a 2012 Altitude with QTII, with the only thing currently different than stock being 265/50/20 Nitto Terra Grapplers installed about a week ago (early July, 2013).

I went up to Russell Gulch near Central City, CO: TrailDamage.com - Russell Gulch

Very simple trail, a lot of the times it's no worse than a dirt road. Rocky in a few spots. Found a little area to play around in and climbed up some old mining debris (rocks) and then back down (of which I was only on 2 wheels for a few seconds, see YouTube video). Overall it was fun to just get out there and see some of these old mining ruins on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Map of where I went:

Pic of some of the trail:

That was my gf... as I would be the one driving. She is also not very good at keeping the camera steady.

Re: TurboSpartan - 4x4 CO Thread

Last weekend, took some friends from out of town up the Chinn's Lake trail.

TrailDamage.com - Chinns Lake

Relatively easy trail with a few bumpy spots. Did bottom out a few times on the way down, which didn't make me happy. Checking afterwards I don't see any damage, but saw a gouge on the frame. Wish I could have gotten the skid plate package with the Altitude.

Took my GoPro but the footage isn't really anything special (I'll try to see if any of the video is worth posting) and only took a few pics:

Re: TurboSpartan - 4x4 CO Thread

This weekend (8/11), went up to the town of Montezuma and then drove a chunk of the Saints John Trail.

TrailDamage.com - Saints John

The original plan was to make the Saints John trail a loop by heading over to the Swan River trail and then back towards Montezuma on the Deer Creek Trail. We only made it up a little bit passed the Wild Irishman mine, before the switchbacks up to the top. Wanted to do the whole loop, but by this point it was already almost 6pm and we could see the storms building and didn't really want to be up on the ridge. Add to the fact that we were alone (only 1 vehicle) and did not know how much longer the rest of the loop would take (looking at the map afterwards, we were only about 1/3 of the way to complete the loop).

One of the multiple stream crossings:

Parked at the Wild Irishman Mine/cabin:

Same spot:

Where we turned around, just passed the mine and at the start of the switchbacks:

View of the valley:

Saints John Creek crossing where you can head to Hunkidori Mine:

Another view of where you drive across:

Lastly, a video coming back across the creek/river:

Re: TurboSpartan - 4x4 CO Thread

I ran a few trails recently too. Maybe we can start a CO trail report thread to post pics and what not!

Re: TurboSpartan - 4x4 CO Thread

We went camping in the st elmo area. Went over tincup pass down to mirror lake. It rained the whole time so it was quite fun. We did Hancock pass the next day as well. My skid plates got a little bit of a beating, but that's what they are for. lol.
