Winter Detail Done *pics*

Gents,

I spent some time last week getting my Jeep ready for winter here in Cleveland (I know, a little late...). I try to do at least two full interior and exterior details per year with a lot of paint maintenance in between.

Heres what I did;

1 round of Megs Ultimate compound applied with a DA (had some minor swirl marks)

1 round of Megs Ultimate polish applied with a DA (provides a great deep shine on black and is really easy to work with)

2 coats of Megs #21 professional sealant over the entire vehicle on a with a twelve hour cure time between coats (have had really good luck with the durability throughout our harsh winters up here)

Dressed/sealed all exterior black plastic with 303

Full interior vacuum (didn't have time to shampoo)

Scrubbed and treated the rubber mats with 303

Went over all the leather with Megs gold class leather cleaner/conditioner

Overall I'm pretty happy with the results, I don't tend to clay during my winter detail because i'm usually strapped for time so I leave it until late May.

Here are a few pics that I snapped with my Iphone as soon as I pulled her out of the garage. The pics really don't do the pearl black justice, I just can't get over how good the color looks! *These were taken pre 303 on the trim and pre tire dressing.

I'm always interested in learning new tips for detailing as it's a sort of therapy for me. That being said, bring on the comments!

Looks great! If you want to add even more depth, I'd suggest a couple coats of a good carnauba wax over the sealant. Chemical Guys Pete's 53 is one of my favorite waxes formulated for darker colors. It really adds a lot of depth to the paint and enhances any metallic flake, while making the paint look extremely "wet."

A couple other good carnaubas that work exceptionally well on dark colors are Chemical Guys 50/50, Dodo Juice Blue Velvet and Poorboy's Nattys Paste Wax (Blue).

Re: Winter Detail Done *pics*

Looks great! I am curious about the ultimate compound use, would the polish not remove the swirls you had?
Did you use the Meg's leather cleaner / conditioner on the dash? I think it is way too shinny. When the sun hits the dash I am blind.

Re: Winter Detail Done *pics*

Thanks for the compliments. The shine of a clean black car makes all the work worth it!

@bmrisko I'm familiar with the process of layering carnuba over sealant but I've never tried it on one of my own vehicles due to time constraints. Also, I've heard great things about both Chemical Guys and Poor Boys and I got the opportunity to talk to quite a few people out at the SEMA show this fall who use the stuff religiously.

@buckeyesrt I used the Ultimate compound because the polish alone wasn't taking out some the deeper swirlmarks in the paint. A new "high end" carwash opened near my house this past summer and I decided to try it out once when I was in a bind and couldn't do my usual weekly hand wash. Let's just say that was the worst $20 I've ever spent and the last time my GC went through any kind of a machine wash...

Looks good. I agree with you abut detailing being like therapy. I cant tell you guys how many days and nights I spent on my last truck detailing it. Always made me feel better and loved when people would ask what did you put on it to make it soo shiny...

Thanks! I wanted to used the 205 this time around but my local detail supply was out when I went in to stock up. A buddy of mine uses it on his cars with great success. Im sure I'll be adding a bootle to my collection the next time around.

Scott,
I love P21S. In fact it is my favorite looking wax. I just can't stand that it lasts like a half hour (it lasts longer than that )
That is why I switched to the #915 from Collinite. It is close to the deep warm and flake pop P21S gives me but lasts 3 months easy. I still use it in the summer.
I used #21's first formula but had some strange condensation issues.
