2014 GC Overland Sum Headlighst with water

My truck has 500 miles, condensation persists in the headlights. So frustrating, love this truck but this all I see when I look at it! Drives me crazy! Jeep has been fighting me to warranty. Need to get this right, 55k for this truck, you can't tell me this is normal. Doesn't happen to Lexus, Mercedes or any other comparable truck. great way to loose loyalty.

Re: 2014 GC Overland Sum Headlighst with water

This is completely normal and will go away soon, trust me. It has happened to all of us with the HID headlights. Just relax and enjoy your Jeep. Go buy something else if you think this is an inferior vehicle because there is some condensation in the headlights for the first few hundred miles before going away forever. And just for the record, it happens to all vehicles with HID headlights. Both my Lexus and my Infiniti had the condensation as well as my Jeep, and it went away in all of them. Even the new Range Rover Sport has condensation in its headlights as well. It has something to do with the ventilation of HID headlights, but that is about as much as I know.

Yes it does. Just Google "Condensation Mercedes", or "Condensation BMW" etc. It is normal for your $55,000 Jeep or an expensive vehicle like Mercedes. But it will clear up, and may come back from time to time. By necessity the housings are vented. They let moisture in and out.

I stand corrected, although I just received a call from the dealer saying the local jeep rep is going to replace with a newly sealed version of the lamps... Apparently they agree or else why would they be taking that step, my 2012 Jeep Overland Summit headlamps HID never had condensation. The tail lamps leaked, Jeep covered under warranty. Either they are vented or they aren't, how would it correct itself over time. I believe it has happened to BMW or Mercedes but generally that is not a design characteristic. It's a design flaw IMHO. I will enjoy the truck because it is one of the best vehicles they have made... And hopefully they will fix, if not, it is what it is! Thanks for the insight!

TSB #08-086-13 which you can download covers the issue.

If your dealer wants to change it I wouldn't complain, but don't be surprised if it happens again.

You can download all the current TSBs and recalls, plus a whole lot more;

Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2 - Grand Cherokee Service Bulletins and Recalls
