Not done yet on ours (it can wait until Dec when next service is due) but reports from Aust owners (from various sites) report 5 hours but that includes normal servicing. ie: the recall added.
I'm not sure any one would take the vehicle in just for this recall, so consider it, including a normal service included, perhaps half a day.
My normal servicing means that I drop the vehicle off between 8-9am, take delivery of a loan vehicle (always) and then pick-up the Grand about the 4pm mark because that's when it suits me - so they have the vehicle all day anyway.
I had my 2015 GC Laredo Diesel done yesterday. Completely painless. Dropped the car off at 8.30am, got a lift home with the courtesy car, the dealer rang after 11.00 am to advise the car was ready, got picked up by the courtesy car 20 min later. All sweet. When I got home I did a test. If I turn the engine off and the car is in neutral and I open the car door it automatically engages 'P' position so I think that is the safety change. You can't leave it 'N'or in any gear where it may roll away.
I had my 2015 GC Limited Petrol done this week. No probs. But there wasn't a problem before it was done Make sure you read the information sheet provided by the dealer. Some important points about what NOT to do.
Seven weeks ago I had the S49 recall done during my 20k service.
The next day my thermo fans started going ballistic at weird times.
After a five minute drive home from work the fans would be going nuts, running at absolutely max power, and wouldn't stop until I turned off the vehicle. Each time it happens it sounds like the engine is going to blow.
Up until that point my truck had never skipped a beat.
I spent the next five weeks repeatedly taking it back to the service guys for them to run tests. Each time they insisted they had done absolutely nothing that could have caused the problem.
Two weeks ago they finally admitted that multiple owners have now come forward complaining of the same issue.
Apparently it turns out that some recalibration of the engines running temperatures was also included in the S49 update.
Now they're waiting on Jeep to supply a patch to fix the issue.
They have no idea when it will be.
So now after more than seven weeks I still have truck that's screwed up.
Not happy.
Apparently it's effecting many GC Diesel models, I don't believe the petrols are a problem.
My advice, if you own a GC Diesel and haven't had the S49 done, don't let them do it, not until they sort out this issue.
Exact same problem with mine. still waiting on jeep for another update. seems weird though the last 2 days have been very hot in Brisbane and not once did the fans come on. But today its like 12 degrees cooler and the fans come on within 10-15min of driving. and they are sooo loud and you can feel it through the steering wheel.
I had the recall done with my last service. Luckily, they did not disconnect the dash cam this time (some do). The video showed it connected to the computer for a while and all was done within a couple of hours.
No information sheet was provided by the dealer. They didn't even know what the recall was and said it was not the auto-park recall.
Yeah there's definitely no logic to how the fans operate now.
A few weeks ago I did a 10 minute drive down the highway at 5:30 in the morning when it was 18 degrees, and the fans were going stupid.
Then more recently I dragged my 2 tonne camper trailer up Cunninghams Gap when the temperature was over 25 degrees, the engine temp was climbing well over half getting close to 3/4, and the fans didn't go off once.
Whatever they've done it's really screwed up.
Same problem here with my GC diesel regarding the fans going ballistic, they admit it has been to do with the update and are waiting for a fix from the US mine also has a problem where sometimes when you stop and turn the car off the ignition still thinks the car is on,so you have to turn on then off again to rectify the problem.
Anyone else had this problem.
Yep, in addition to the fans issue I also have the same ignition problem.
I tried to explain it to them when I had them looking into the fans issue but they insisted it was totally fine. I've tried to work out under which circumstances it's happening, but like the fans it just seems to be erratic and inconsistent.
I thought it might have something to do with the timing and order in which you stop, put on the park brake turn off the car, remove your seatbelt and then open the door. But it doesn't seem to matter what you do, it still happens.
It drive me nuts, why did they have to screw with something that was working just fine. My truck was perfect before all crap.
Told me yesterday that the fix for the fans will not be out till towards the end of December.
They did two other updates one was the ignition thing.
On my 10,000k service.
opcorn:
Interesting that it seems to only impact the diesel's. Like Sniper, I've been very happy with the operation of my GC for the last 2 1/2 years and for me the selector and foot brake work well.. Think i'll try and hold off on this one while the OT&E continues to be done by owners in the field.
No great drama you can just hear the fans roaring flat chat at what seems the wrong times.
I have just driven down to Melbourne and back towing the club rowing trailer 12m long with no issues at all great on fuel just like my previous 3 GC diesels.
Hopefully this time they will fix the fan issues without creating more like the foot break problem which I never had.
One other fault I have is if you are playing for your stick or phone it just locks up the music and nothing will play except the radio.
You have to stop turn off the car and restart again to reboot your music then all goes back to normal until the next time weird.
I had the S49 performed last week. Wish I hadn't. Fan problem as reported by others, but include climate control acquiring a mind of its own. Service centre has said there is a bulletin out re noisy fans, not to worry as it's " nothing" !!!!
Yes don't you love that its nothing that the fans are going ballistic and when you turn it off you get that something is burning smell.
You wonder if up the track our fans will all be burnt out earlier than they would have and more than likely out of warranty by then.
Hi, having the same problem, but the other things I have noticed are, fuel consumption has gone up by 2-3 l/100km, exhaust regeneration happening every 2nd day. and yesterday my change oil light came on after being reset at the last service and only 5000km being done, great update.
I contacted the FCA office here in Melbourne on Tuesday Jan 3. Was advised the update is available and if you haven't heard from your dealer call them right away and book your vehicle in to have it resolved etc.
Spoke to our local dealer in Sydney today, they have 6 cars waiting for the software patch - which FCA is yet to send their way. They're calling me back next week with an update
I'm booked for a service next week and need to resolve what I am going to allow them to do. I'm perfectly happy with the shiftier as is and don't want them to do the S49 update if it creates other problems with fans, mileage etc.
Ive read a heap of posts here, but a question :
Is the S49 recall, patches etc all resolved and dealers all up to speed? Or do I tell them to leave my GC alone?
