Unable to use voice commands onavigate

When I try to use voice commands on my nav system (u connect ) it tells me that I can't use voice commands in this country!! Is there away around this? A new 2014 grand Cherokee outlander

Re: Unable to use voice commands onavigate

Hi Keith,

Unfortunately we got shafted here in Australia and that feature doesn't work. For navigation, about the only voice commands which do are to "navigate home" and "cancel route". SJ&L will certainly be here soon to correct me if I've got the exact command slightly wrong... but you get the gist.

I fitted the Customtronix Bronze firmware, which at least allows you to use the screen keyboard while moving. Ooops... I mean your passenger to use it.

Many early purchasers of the MY14 in 2013 were not advised that the VR to nav wasn't a working feature, despite advertising it and previous models having it. I was pretty pissed off to be honest, but I'm over it now.

Cheers,
Steve

Re: Unable to use voice commands onavigate

Disregarding Steve's smart-arse comments, he is correct with regards to the MY14 Grand Cherokee. VR Nav is not operational other than the 'Go Home' and 'Cancel Guidance' commands in this country.

Am not sure if it is operational on the MY15 GC (Australia) - no one that has taken delivery of one has confirmed it yet on these boards.

I can tell you however, that the MY15 KL Cherokee does have this feature and whilst I know that info doesn't help you, it makes me wonder if the head-unit in the MY15 GC could possibly be the same as in the MY15 KL, in which case VR for Nav **should** work.

But it's all supposition until someone with an MY15 GC can confirm otherwise.

But, if you have an MY14 GC then no - it doesn't work.

Oh, and Merry Christmas to you Steve.

Re: Unable to use voice commands onavigate

Geez until I got to the last line I didn't know if you were joking or not.

Thanks for the corrections... I don't bother with it any more. That said, being able to change the HVAC temperature on trips where I've got my tablet in the way is actually quite handy.

Merry Christmas to you too... the elusive SJ... or L.

Cheers,
Steve

Is the tablet mounted Steve or does it just perch when necessary?

The husband would be very interested in this. I've noticed him already casting an eye over the Lockpick site on several occasions.

Re: Unable to use voice commands onavigate

No Keith, it's transparent to the user. You also get the SRT apps with some cool gauges... not that this probably makes a difference to your decision making!

The sole caveat is that you can not obtain subsequent Uconnect updates via Jeep. They must come from Customtronix. So far there is nothing in this, but it does need to be said. Also, I intend to reinstall standard firmware for servicing, as I don't want any bother from the peanuts who service these things.

Cheers,
Steve

G'day Steve, can you tell me tell me more about the custom fix you mention, it annoys the hell out of me that can't do on the move. Look forward to hearing from you.

Re: Unable to use voice commands onavigate

That's what you want Madmel. Plenty of information to read if you wish, but it's a 100% good thing.

Cheers,
Steve
