Re: BT Clear Catch Can & new antenna

The catch can is a can plumbed into the PCV and Breather system so it catches the oil vapors before they collect in the intake manifold.

Hemis (and LSx's) have a real problem with oil collecting in their manifolds.

"an oil catch can will "catch" the oil vapor that is released through your PCV system and condense the vapor in the can so that you don't recirculate nasty oil sludge back into your intake tract."

from a famous 5.7/6.1 guy: and he doesnt sell catch cans.

i have yet to see one that does not have oil leaking by in the PCV system into the intake.

So everyone that does not have a catch can to collect this oil please do yourself a favor and go and get one, make one yourself or something.

The end result of the oil going back into your intake (aside from a boogerd up intake manifold) is a pretty drastic reduction in octane rating due to the contamination of oil, which in turn leads to severe knock.

I cant stress this enough.
Once you get one and install it, check it out after a month of regular driving if you do not believe me, you will be surprised.
Just wanted to share this as i see quite a few guys here without one.

Re: BT Clear Catch Can & new antenna

This was the inside of my manifold at about 4,000 miles with no can. Never again.

Re: BT Clear Catch Can & new antenna

Ok so noob question here since I don't know jack about cars.

I bought my Jeep with 22,000 miles on it and installed a catch can right away.

So for the first 22,000 miles it was collecting in the manifold...

What should I do at this point?

You could remove the throttle body and clean both the TB and manifold.

Re: BT Clear Catch Can & new antenna

Thanks Peter for the suggestion, if I can see sludge like Mike posted can I sort of just suck it out or something? This would be a great project for the weekend...

Re: BT Clear Catch Can & new antenna

I pulled the manifold. Getting in there to clean it with it on the motor is a bitch. Pull it and open up the bottom so you can clean the whole thing, including the runners, which do get pretty nasty.

Its only like 10 bolts, plus the 4 that hold down the fuel rails, a few vacuum hoses, and 1 electrical connector (plus the 8 injector ones).

Plus, its a good excuse for a Port job.
