I was quoted those figures direct from the manufacture......

and boychickis....isnt your viper hood still upwards to 2k as well???

Im just tired of EVERY hood being twice as much as any other cowl hood on the market for us Jeepers......fn re dick u lus

so in your mind ALL hoods should be the same price regardless of the way its made or the materials and craftmanship put into it...........i would disagree.

the reason some other hoods are real cheap is they are made in CHINA or some other 3rd world place where when they are done with the CF resins and such just throw them out back or down the sewer. Im not defending this hood by any means. I dont even know who made it or where. im just saying there are ways to save money.

i do know that hoods like the venom, made by CBD in southern Cali, are top shelf all the way. they are built and backed by a US based company. designed by one of our members. and brought to us in very limited production. all those contribute to the cost.

lets talk about numbers as well. no one makes stuff for us because not enough of us buy that stuff. its rather simple math. so the ones that do make stuff for use, need to recoup their investements.

and if you need proof, let me go find the POLL about the venom hood. 35 people said they would definitely buy it in a poll that was up for about a week.
well go look at his list. about 12 peeps on it..............where the other 23..........

no robpp, I believe you have misinterpreted my frustration with these hood manufactures......

what Im saying is this:

go to every hood manufactures site that DOES make a Jeep hood....they also make hoods for other vehicles

look at the Jeep's hood price, look at the other vehicle's hood price

there is a huge discrepancy

even for this viper hood from CBD

the other vehicle's FG hoods by them are 800-900, but didnt I see the FG Jeep viper one is 1200 posted somewhere on this site??

and the hood put up by the OP is made by trufiber.......

their site has FG hoods for 500-600.....

but low and behold, they want 1200 for this Jeep one

THAT is what Im alluding to

and THAT is F'd up in my mind, sorry if you dont agree........

ok bro, i did miss that you were saying the same makers........ not the same as what i was saying.....but maybe there is a reason. hood size or mold size complexity.... we do have that leading egde in front, the fender curtvature.

and the venom hood isnt being sold by CBD only made by them.

i guess the best way to show you dont like the price is not to buy one.........

me, im on my second hood. and they both cost quite a bit.....i made the choice to buy, others made the choice not too.
no trying to toot my horn, just saying.

I used to deal ALOT with CF and FG and I know first hand how much it costs to build a hood and they are marking these things up multiple multiple times I really dont see the need for that... If anyone wants to make an absolute killing build fg and cf hoods for 600 and under cut the opposition

^^^
I got this quote directly from the manufacturer Rob

this hood isnt technically in production....yet

and you know they wont post numbers on the red site....lol

that is, not until "the red" has their pockets padded first lol

thats why you dont even see the name trufiber anywhere linked to this hood yet either, silly silly rules lol

thats why JG.org rocks, u can at least TALK about stuff freely!!!!!!!!!

The Venom hood started as a project for myself. The plan was to mold and make the hoods myself for my fellow Jeepers. The whole project took a turn when someone mentioned having it manufactured. I took a risk and If I told you what I was out of pocked to make these hood's you would puke!!! I did not pay an 8 year old to work 12 hours a day either. I made it myself and delivered it to the manufacturer on my dime and time. Total time was well over 500 hrs for 1 hood and a bunch of computer hours that's not including CBD's 300+ hours. Think of it as ART what do you pay an artist to paint something for you or a designer to design something for you? I'm not complaining just trying to help you understand why different hood's are different prices.

The way I felt about it was why not have it manufactured and give it to the best in the business. I put the time into it and wanted a manufacture to take pride in what I had made. I probably could of had it made for cheap which in turn would have meant a less than desirable product and cheaper usage of materials with no guarantee of fitment and longevity. That's in essence what you get when you buy a 300-600 Chinese hood. Is that Chinese hood worth 1,800 dollars I don't think so. I can make that hood in two days and have it produced in 2 weeks Guaranteed!! I would never glue a scoop on a hood and put my name on it that's not me more money to be made or not. I take pride in what I do and I am a perfectionist. Now will it sell yea sure it would if it where priced right it would probably sell 10-1 to the venom hood. That don't bother me at all options are good and competition is good also that way people have something to compare it to.

Remember this started as a project for myself so If I get some quality hoods out and people get to see my work and how much I payed attention to detail (Which the Jeep Deserves) and their happy then I'm happy. If you still have questions feel free to call me and maybe I can shed some light on the hood making process and exactly what it takes finically. I guarantee You will come back on the forums with a big I was so wrong comparing those 2 hood prices LOL.
No Joke Bro' Call me!!

Chad- At your 500 hours alone to develop the Venom for CBD to produce. Thats roughly 30,000 in wages for me. I look at it this way, if Im going to change my brake fluid and it takes me two hours, or I can take it to a shop that can do it an hour, whats my time at my wages going to cost me to do the work? Well the shop is nearly 40% savings for me, and I can now find something else to do with that freed up two hours. So going by that rationale, Id say your hood, to me, is a good deal. Not just because you have done it cheaper, but you also by far exceeded the quality and craftsmanship I could obtain, whether it be my work or a contracted shop. Not to mention at the rate you reply to all these posts, Id say your customer service is excellent. Now the big question, will I buy a Venom hood? F$CK NO!!!! You shot yourself in the foot announcing there is yet to come two more hoods from you. However I will buy a hood.... just waiting to see what I like best. Unless you wanna offer a early buyback? You can call it the Johnny Boychicks hood whore exchange program! J/K Johnny!
:lol::D:cool:

please dont take my post the wrong way, I wasnt making any derogatory remarks towards your hood odvious (or however u spell it bro lol)

I was just using your hood as an example of the price differences set by the manufactures, not the final dollar amount

and out of all the 1k+ hoods, I would buy yours/the CBD made one for sure!!!

but I definitely would never even contemplate buying a chinese/this trufiber/medic hood for their higher price though

so, I hope I didnt make you feel like you had to defend what you do.......

what it boils down to is I just dont get why as a whole, the jeep hoods are almost twice as much as the other model hoods that the same manufactures carry/make?????

#46 ·
No worries!!
I really did not take it the wrong you as a potential customer (For a hood or something else down the road) I feel deserves an explanation! I also feel most people just don't understand. So may be I should not have quoted you I should have posted it for educational purposes LOL.
I agree I was really wishing it was going to be a 500.00 dollar FG and a 800.00 CF hood that way more people would have bought it. At least that way when they saw one of my hood's they will know what the difference is and be like wow. Kinda like seeing a rare/expensive car with craftsmanship you don't see everyday.

Above post Fixed LOL!!

Is Trufiber the manufacturer of the hood in the first post? I love this hood, and I need a hood for my SRT Ocho, so I am in the market. I sent an E-mail to the sales dept at trufiber this morning, I will see what happens this week.

#64 ·
Group buy? I need to order a hood ASAP, mangled the front of the SRT yesterday :(

#65 ·
What in the hell are you doing to that poor thing? Engines, front ends, what's next?

#66 ·
I'm afraid to even think about it, actually my wife was coming into the driveway in the heavy rain, caught some gravel (They recently re chipped the road, Our road is tar and chip, not "true" pavement), and blammo right into the telephone pole in front of our house. I was in the barn, heard something and the lights flickered, 20 seconds lated she came rolling down the driveway. Jeep looks pretty sad, my new painted headlight lasted all of two weeks  Good thing is she didn't get hurt, and the Jeep can be fixed. I figure if I have to replace the hood anyway... I was going to replace or blackout the lower chrome trim on the bumper as well anyway

#67 ·
Well what matters is no one got hurt. Still sucks though.

#68 ·
Yup, she is back to driving the wrangler again (35" Boggers and all that blah blah) If I can get the SRT hood, and finally get the front bumper peeling paint fixed, I guess it will be for the better, sucks, she gouged up the driver's front wheel as well. I get to call the Insurance guy tomorrow.

Dropped it off at the body shop today. I also called Trufiber about the hood, and got on the waiting list. According to my E-mail The price is 1100.00 shipped, and they should be available in~1-2 weeks. Soo, looks like it si going to be OK afterall. IO also ordered another "Eagle Eye" headlight for the drivers side so I can open it up and black it out on Ebay as well. The body guy does not think it will be to big of a deal to get it fixed.
