There's an SRT a few street from me, and it looks RIDICULOUS with the skinny wheels. Looks very underwheeled bordering on comical. The reason they do it? I have no idea!
They look to be no bigger than 8" to me. Really really undersized. Likely story is something to do with lack of avail for runflats, at least here in Australia runflats are only typically available at dealerships, not at retail tire outlets.
There was a pair of black ones last week on ebay Germany ... 20x8.0 the guy says they are OEM. See the wheel stamp ... made in Japan ... are the other rims not made in the US
there is also another guy selling parts of a SRT8 which seems to be a Euro version (speedometer in Km/h) he does not specify rim size but he's got 275/40 R20 on them.
I really do not have a clue as to the difference in sizes but wonder if its linked to emissions regulation. A couple months back I was with a friend at a VW dealership in Germany to inquire about a remote starter for a Touareg. To our great surprise, we were told that they no longer offer the option and that's its illegal to retrofit them now due to emission reglations. I waited for the punch line but he was serious. Its seen as a source of unnecessary Co2 emission.
Most high-end cars over here have run-flats fitted from the factory now and they are available everywhere - just pricy.
The director at my work has a BMW 5 series with the M5 alloys (bought from the dealer) and it has 305 profile tires on the back which is a lot wider than the SRT rims so it must be some country where it is sold that has a specific law on wheels/tyre sizes?
Look at other Chrysler models. The caravan, new liberty and the older 300 all had the tail lights whose style resembles the WK export tails. I think they did it just to be different. To me they should have just put the WH ones on all of them and called it done. BUT, then they went and changed the WK tails to 1 bulb vs 2 which the design change would not work with the Export tails. If they never changed the tails to the new style they could have cut costs even more since there are 3 styles now.
