Re: A Teen at Work!

I have been spending boring money lately; money I would much rather be spending on cool mods.

But, sometimes ya just need some things! To start off, I got some McGard lug nuts. Now, I would not normally go into detail, but I was fairly impressed with this kit. I got the McGard Wheel Installation Kit #84551 (Chrome/Black Bulge Cone Seat Wheel Installation Kit for 5 Lug Vehicles (1/2"-20 Thread Size); Set of 16 Lug Nuts, 4 Wheel Locks, 1 Key & 1 Key Storage Pouch) Which came with 16 lug nuts, four locking nuts, the key to the lock, four valve stems, a pouch for the key, and plenty of instructions. The key to these locks are not universal, so don't lose em'.

Everything was packaged crazy nicely as to not get one scratch on one lug. There are even warning stickers you can place in the glove box, on the key, etc for shops so they know there are locking nuts and hot to use the key. Not that my Jeep is ever in a shop without me! :shhh:

I NEEDED lug nuts though. Half of the OEM two piece nuts became smaller one piece nuts and every two piece left was on the verge of stripping. All due to the exception of the one that did strip making me waste money on the lug nut removing socket...

Some before and afters coming. My wheels are pretty beat up from winter and wheeling. I have plans to repaint them and just about everything else this spring so back off.

I even recently got the chance to give someone some free spring parking lessons. All by sending a message of course...

Re: A Teen at Work!

So this is literally my third time typing this, Jeep Garage keeps deciding to expire my session.

Anyhow, I got to install these speakers that I've had since December. They are Alpine Type R speakers. In the front, they are Alpine SPR-50C 5-1/4" with 1" tweeters (http://www.alpine-usa.com/product/view/spr-50) and Alpine SPR-60C 6.5" with 1" tweeters as well (http://www.alpine-usa.com/product/view/spr-60c.) The front speakers are installed nothing special, but I am working on installing the tweeters somewhere better. But, the rears are all set so I will do the writeup on that for now.

I wanted the surround effect with the tweeters, so I looked for a better place on the inner door panel to install them with their tilt-able flush mounts. With the inner door panel off, I found the perfect place that had markings that would help with my OCD when it comes to both sides being perfectly even.

I went to my local hardware store to buy a hole cutter, but forgot the tweeter... So, I called Alpine's customer service and they had me with the specifications I needed within five minutes of calling. I ended up buying a Milwaukee Hole Dozer.

The hole cutter worked perfectly.

I then went to the door to install the speaker and the tweeter's adjustable crossover. The crossover is pictured in a place that didn't work, I had to move it about 3" to the left of the speaker. The crossover mounts with padded 3M VHB double sided tape along with a zip tire that goes through the panel and the crossover.

The wiring there is temporary and I will clean it up later come other upgrades, but I'll mention that later. I used the Metra adapter kit to use the stock connectors ()

The tweeter anded up looking and working flawlessly!

As for any future upgrades, I will probably do them over time. I want to get a 4 channel amp, aftermarket head unit, a 2 channel amp and subs, and lastly sound deadening.

Trust me, I was clueless as of a week ago. But yes, you can definitely just add tweeters. You can just splice them onto the stock speakers no problem. Just so you know, the front 6X9" door speakers do NOT emit anything but bass. If you hook tweeters up to the front door speakers, nothing will come out of the tweeters. You can, however, splice the tweeters into the upper dash speakers and get the signal for them to work.
