Re: ejschultz Build Log

Looks great! But needs more rubber! A set of 32" general grabbers would do nicely.

Re: ejschultz Build Log

I'm stuck between getting some 245/75/16 which measure the same in diameter as most 31s or some 235/85/16 which measure the same as most 32s. I'm thinking the 31s would be a better fit but I'm pretty torn. I have all summer to think about it though. I'm not replacing these tires until they're shot. My 249 already did a number on the fronts. They're out back now and it's eating through the "new" fronts. I'm also not going to get new tires until my 242 goes in. I don't want to eat up new rubber because of a dying VC.

Re: ejschultz Build Log

Deff go 245/75 the 235/85 is going to be super skinny and ride like ass. Either that or if you want a 32 go 265/75/16.

Re: ejschultz Build Log

Yeah, I thought about 265/75/16, but they're going to be a little out of my price range. I also don't know how well they'll work with a 7" wide rim. 7" is the minimum width for one. The 235/85/16 is recommended to be on a 6.5" rim but can go up to a 7" with no problem. The 245/75/16 is measured on a 7" wide rim by all manufactures. Because of that, I'm fairly confident that's the size I'll go with. I know I won't need to trim with 31s either. 32s may require a little trimming. Trimming in NW Indiana isn't something I want to do. We use salt in the winter and that'd eat the trimmed metal in one winter.

I don't have any pictures of the work I did today, but I figured I'd let you all know that I did the 703 injector swap. It went pretty smoothly and the idle is now the best it's ever been. I'll comment after a couple tanks of gas about the mileage differences.

Re: ejschultz Build Log

I got my Niner grille, painted and cleared it yesterday, then I installed it today.

Since it's dark, that's all I got. I'll see if I can get a better pic tomorrow.

Re: ejschultz Build Log

Better pics, as promised. I almost ran out of daylight again but I was able to get outside and get these pics.

I thought it looked like it needed a little more clear coat this morning, but it actually looks pretty decent as is, considering my painting skills.

Re: ejschultz Build Log

Putting in my 242 is definitely my next "mod" on the ZJ. I planned on getting some new wheels (15s) and tires once that's done. I jumped the gun and got a set of 5 US Wheels Stealth Crawlers. They're 15x8 with 4" of backspacing. They'll be sitting in their boxes on my garage floor until I get the transfer case swapped. After that, I'll order some tires from TireRack, drive out there with the wheels in the back of more than likely someone's truck, get them installed, and bring it all back home to put them on my Jeep. It'll be done for a little while then... At least it'll be done until I have a house and whatnot.

Am I reading this wrong or are you planing on pulling the 5.2 for a 4.0 ? I'm fond of the 'ol 4.0L, but not enough to lose the 8

Re: ejschultz Build Log

Although, the 4.0 is 242 c.i. Something tells me that I wouldn't get the same kind of sound out of my Magnaflow exhaust with a 4.0

I'm swapping my NV249 transfer case (AWD and 4 low) for a NV242 (2 hi, 4 part time/hi, 4 full time/AWD, and 4 low). My viscous coupler is going out on me causing a little wheel hop during tight turns on dry ground. I also have noticed pretty uneven wear on the outside edges of my front tires. My alignment is and has been dead on since I've had my Grabbers on there. A dying VC causes uneven wear like that.
