Haha, your friends reactions are spot on lol. Nice job! I gotta admit, there was a part me that screamed for a lift and some steelies and giants tires when I went offroading haha.

In order to embed youtube videos, copy whatever comes after the v= part in the link, then click the youtube button and paste the code.

Re: First attempt at off roading...

Yeah, a little more ground clearance is always a good thing but even going with a slightly taller, more agressive tire would have helped a whole lot. Glad you got out!

Re: First attempt at off roading...

Neat vids. Tires make a big difference. What kind of tires are you running?

Re: First attempt at off roading...

just normal road tires... just the basic that came when i bought car. idk what kind they are.. they had been replaced from originals though.

I want offroad tires but do they suck for everyday road driving? what about rims that are black with like those silver lug nuts? anyone know how pricey those are?

I have General Grabber A/T2's and love them. Aggressive enough for most off road stuff and very good manners on road. The best compromise I've ever owned. I love 'em.

Those are good. They would have taken the OP through that mud/water easier.

Re: First attempt at off roading...

A bit of advice for you.

STOP!!

Driving into water that fast will eventually make for a very bad day! I have personally seen many Jeeps get hydrolocked engines that way. It only takes a split second to get enough water to lock the engine. There are no second chances, or warnings!

Please take this as constructive criticism. I would hate to see you ruin a great Jeep. I have been wheeling for years, I lead a lot of newbie runs and I am also a Board member of a local Jeep club of about 250 members.

When crossing water...

1. Go slow. Create a small wave (couple inches high) in front of the Jeep with the bumper. It helps push the water away from the engine.

2. Never go into water with unknown depth. Know your limits! If it gets deep enough, the cooling fan can and will fling water up all over the engine and possibly the intake/air filter causing hydrolock

3. When crossing water, try and keep the radiator out of the water. Muddy water evaporates very quickly once out of the water. It leaves behind dirt/silt and will clog the radiator. I have seen many Jeeps have overheating problems after wheeling and get stuck on the side of the road. Cleaning a radiator (exterior) is very time consuming. Use a household hose. (pressure washers bend cooling fins)

Find some good trails to wheel in, mud/water holes are fun for a few seconds, but one trashed engine or flooded interior is not worth it! Hit up some good trails with obsticles and you will have a blast!

Here is a pic of my Jeep on a good trail
