Re: Grand Willys project

Oh no, more photos of the mounts!

Had some left over rods given to me when I bought the welder second hand 16 years ago. Hoped they would be still alright to weld the mounts in with.

Not too bad for old rods I guess.

Re: Grand Willys project

Sorry but no update this week as didn't get anything done worth showing on the project as was a bit under the weather this week. Got the rest of my sign collection up on the carport wall outside the workshop entrance though.

Re: Grand Willys project

Looking good. I love all the photos. It helps those of us w/o the means to do this kind of work what really goes in to a custom restoration like this. BUT this by far has the be the best restoration i will ever see. Who would ever think that they would find a willys truck with all WK/WH Grand Cherokee styling, interior, suspension and drive train. You sir are a master of what you do and an inspiration to all of us.

Ive been reading up on your projects on your site since i was 18 years old with my first lifted XJ. For the longest time it was the top bookmark on my browser window but i changed computers and lost the link for a while.

Re: Grand Willys project

Keep up the good work and congratulations on your willpower on a huge project.
Now that you had the privileged opportunity to dissemble a complete Jeep, would you care to tell us, in you opinion what do you think of the build quality of the Jeep in general. Is it what it is supposed to be?

Re: Grand Willys project

Wow, thanks for the great comments and hope I live up to your expectations along the way.
Johan, after stripping down all the parts, and still continuing to do so this week again, I am quite surprised the amount of effort and engineering that has gone into it. Especially the frame rails and quite a complex setup that added up to way more weight than I was expecting too! But all the stress areas are well thought out with many reinforcing plates etc and dimensional changes to reduce body flex and improve handling. The suspension is quite beefy as well. Nothing like the XJ which was really the roots of their uni-body development.
