Re: Grand Willys project

Still alive and well and thanks for the comments guys.
Made it through India and Bhutan intact and now just came back from safaris in Nepal on elephant, 4x4 and by canoe. Spotted crocs, rhino, deer, monkeys and even a bear! Missed out on seeing tiger though.
Start our trek up to Everest Base Camp in a couple of days and hope to reach in by Christmas day. Just hope we can fly in to the starting point as some have already been waiting a week as planes been unable to land due to high winds. It is listed in the worlds most dangerous airports just like the airport we flew into Bhutan too a couple of weeks ago!

Re: Grand Willys project

Thanks for the comments. Did make it out of Nepal intact yesterday and now in Singapore to see the New Year in.
Managed to achieve our goal of reaching Everest Base Camp so pretty stoked about that. No climbing of it was intended as can't do that in the middle of winter as the cold would kill you quick smart. Don't have the required skills or the $60,000 in fees it takes either! Did manage to climb a near by peak though for a better view of Everest and we were the only ones in our group able to do so. Not bad for being twice the age of the rest.

Here is the album of the safari: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...1&l=3e699130c2

The trek: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...1&l=226133bf1a

Cheers and hope you all have a happy new years.

I showed one of my buddies your page here and he made up a quick sketch of what the final product might look like...

Re: Grand Willys project

Manage a little bit of time back on the project. Wont have as much time this year as have to fit it in with house renovations.
I dragged out the Grand Cherokee firewall and floor from the garage. This will be the basis of the body build and the Willys cowl and sides etc will be welded to this.

I have cut the part off that supported the wiper motor at the top of the firewall. Can't mount the wipers there as the windscreen is a good 10" or so back from the firewall on the Willys.

Next thing to decide is how much wider I will make the Willys cab. I want the tyres fully covered by the stock guards as is required by the law here. Don't want to just widen the guards as don't like the look of it and more cab room is much needed too.
The extra width is determined by the difference in axle width, (57" Willys, 66" Grand Cherokee), and any change in wheel offset and tyre size. So have to choose that already.

I also threw on the Grands original dash to see if the width I choose effects the use of that later on if possible. Most of the dash depth will actually be under the cowl and only from the top corner vents forward will be visible, (will cover the speaker grilles). This will improve the looks of it even though I am going for a modern inside and underneath, and old in the body only look.
