Is the patriot your profile pic?? Wranglers are good for off roading, but cherokees are too and theyre more practical as well..

Hmmm, take it your tag has something to do with your strength of character!

Just an observation based on your comments and your call sign/tag/nickname. Certainly no offense intended.

If you can afford it, and that has the expected 4.0, think about dropping in a 4.5 or 4.7 stroker. They are widely available, including from Mopar as crate motors.
Hey.. Sorry, Im not super mechanical quite yet (looking into schools though..)
Can you explain this in common folk language? Lol..
Are the 4.5 or 4.7 strokers made my GM?

Re: Last year of American made Jeep Cherokees

Welcome to the Garage! I had a hell of a good time with my 87 Cherokee. It ran beautifully for 20 years (the last 15 by me). The 4.0 liter and auto transmission would probably have kept running forever but the body let it down. Too much road salt up here. Best vehicle I ever had.. And I wouldn't change that engine...just my opinion. That said, the WK is a lot nicer to drive though.

I have to though! I have a blown head gasket and i weaseled a sweet deal.. Since i wanted to go to school for automotive technology anyways.. The admissions rep happened to say something about as long as im enrolled in school, i can fix my jeep for free plus parts..
So i asked "what if i bring parts from a junkyard".. They said ok..
I found a gm straight 6, 6cyl complete engine with 100k LESS miles than on mine for $300...
Im planning on getting a person with AAA to hook me up with a tow..
*Think about it.. Blown head gasket could equal aprox 1k..
New/used engine, free tow, free labor (and im involved in the labor)... $300

I'm sure that will be a real interesting project. Hope you can get it to work without too many headaches. I only visit the forum sporadically but I'll be watching for some updates!
Best of luck.
