Re: Omelet's Build Thread!

Warning this thread is about to become even more picture heavy!!!

So my plans to hit up Pancake Rock fell through since it is apparently closed So after some looking around we decided to to find a place called Lawrence Welk Trail (across the I15 freeway from Lawrence Welk Resort). My dad drove down from Santa Maria on Fri and then Sat morning we drove up and met John (Jhigz) for a good time.

Here is a quick over head shot of the trails and the path we took.

We made our way to one of the entrances where we took a second to air down. Even if you don't plan on conquering any intense trails it is still nice to air down for a smoother ride

We weren't 100m down the trail when we came to our first challenge! It really wasn't that bad, but it was a nice rut to cross going up an incline.

Re: Omelet's Build Thread!

From there the trail was mellow for a while with just some ruts and rocks.

That is until we came to this beauty!

Pics don't do it much justice. I was in the lead so I went first. You can see my dad off to the side and John's mom trying to climb up My first attempt I didn't hug the left side of the trail enough so my rear diff got hung up (I guess I need to swap in some 40s next ) After backing down and taking a better line I walked right up.

Next was John and with his lower clearance we tried a different route up the right side. That ended up not working out so we backed down and took the same line I did. He got to test out some of those skid plates

Re: Omelet's Build Thread!

Then it was my dad's turn. After watching us he made it look easy!

We continued on up to the top where there was a huge boulder. A little too big to play on, but it made for some nice shots!

Re: Omelet's Build Thread!

Next I took some quick flex shots with the boulder. I was a little bumped after getting home and seeing that some of them weren't totally in focus But they still look cool!

Me and my son!

I aired down to 25psi to see how these would flex and perform. I aired my Nittos down to 20psi normally with great results but those are "E" and these are "C" so I figured 25 would probably be good for the day. They did great and had some very nice flex for 25psi. They never left me longing for more traction!

Re: Omelet's Build Thread!

After leaving the boulder we went north to a water tower and then took a trail west. We thought we could circle around south on another trail, but after getting there we figured out pretty quick that it might not happen. The trail its self was fine but it was very over grown. I put my dad and son to work After clearing a enough to get around a couple turns we decided to turn around and head back to the boulder.

We will head back another day with the purpose of trail maintenance, but this time it was a hot day and we were just there for fun.

Once we got back to the boulder we took another trail down to what used to be an old air strip (allegedly). There was a lot of fun rocks and stuff to play on there.

Re: Omelet's Build Thread!

I saw this rock and got a wild hair to climb it As you have probably noticed already I trimmed my front bumper. If I hadn't there's no way I would have made it up and back down this rock without some damage. My drive side tire was able to contact the rock and provide enough traction to lift the front up until the passenger side tire touched. It looked crazy and it was fun!

Then my dad drove around to the other side for a sweet photo op!

Re: Omelet's Build Thread!

After I backed down you can get an idea of just how high it is.

And there's my crazy dad

And one last spot to stretch before heading out.

Re: Omelet's Build Thread!

And that is it! After that we took a trail south until it met up with paved road where I aired up. I was very impressed with the SL and 35s! Before I was constantly lifting a tire. I think there was only a couple times when I had a tire in the air for a moment, so that extra 3" of down travel really helped. Granted I never had a problem getting over or through an obstacle before thanks in part to the QD2 system, but I almost always had a tie in the air. After swapping out the rear shocks for a longer set I will have even more travel All in all a great time was had by all, and I thank my dad for driving down for the weekend and John for helping me find another close-ish trail to enjoy

Thanks guys! It was a blast, can't wait to go back!

John's WK has an OME HD lift, AEV pintler wheels, 275/70/17 BFG AT tires, 4xG (front, belly, side, rear, and diff) also the Matrix just hasn't installed it yet. Those are the major ones at least.
