That's right, I am FINALLY making my build thread! I have been modding this Jeep for three years now so I have a lot of catching up to do. Just bare with me, because this is going to take some time to get through. I will start from the beginning and try not to miss anything.

It all started in 2004 when I saw the beast that AEV and SuperLift made.

Not only did it look awesome, but it boasted some incredible performance. A Jeep Grand Cherokee with QDII coupled to a HEMI! I had to have it! Unfortunately, being a lowly military man also trying to support a family I could not afford a $45K vehicle, let along the $5K+ for the lift tires and other goodies.

Finally after the market took a crap in late 08 the time had come! I started looking around and pricing the different models and option. By then the CRD had also come out which I wanted more than the Hemi, but I could not find one in Cali :glare: I found a few in other states, but they were too far away and more than I could afford. So I ended up scoring a 2005 Limited with every option available that year and 40K miles for $16K! It seemed no one wanted to buy a big Hemi powered vehicle at that time, so local dealers were pricing them very low. Even a year after I bought it I couldn't find a better deal

This was the day I brought it home!

Yes it is dirty because I insisted on swinging by a trail on the way home to test out 4lo! I wanted to make sure the t-case and ELSDs were working properly. :D In fast the first mod I made was to remove the front air dam before I hit the trail.

I had a successful day with ASFIR4x4 today!

In the shop ready to go:

Transfer case skid to replace the wimpy MOPAR one:

Their skid will bolt on whether you have the MOPAR gas tank skid or not. It comes with a bracket if you don't have the skid.

Their front skid takes the place of the MOPAR suspension skid and the 4xGuard front skid:

It doesn't come up as far as the 4xGuard skid, but I plan to rectify that soon :D

And after we were done and ready to role!

One more day of fun then it is back home to test the goods! Check out TheSteelArmadillo.com for the skids. I will post more pics and info later.

I dont like the front skid at all imo, it does not come up far enough and is all kinds of narrow... but the tcase skid is a beaut

Yep it need to come up a little farther, but I will take care of that. It isn't much narrower than the 4xGuard skid and it covers everything that is needed. The great things about it is the weight, the smooth lines so you can slide up and over things, and the fact that it will never rust! I am so happy I don't have to touch it up every time I get back from wheeling :D These things are burly, and they have no idea what they are in for! Haha!!

This is the first set made with two more that will be finishes later this week. All of which are already sold! I would like to thank Jon the owner and Doc the fabricator at the Steel Armadillo for putting these together. They are super stout and ready for a beating!

I need a rag for my keyboard! Those are the right look for the wk! Finally some protection for the doors as well. They look awesome! I can't wait to get a set...

Those look great. The lines really work with the WK. Can you use a high lift jack on them?

That vid did give me a new appreciation for Falken. I need to look up the price, wet pavement, and durability info on them now.

Ya Falken has been pushing their tires hard the past couple years. I have seen guys push them pretty hard with good results, but not at this level yet. This will be a real test of just what they can handle. I just hope Falken doesn't hold back. I want to see them push it just as hard as every other rig with competition tires.

I forgot to mention that my LED rock lights were perfectly fine where they were and needed no modification to accommodate the new sliders. I do however need to do something about the front strip since it was attached to the 4xG front skid which has been replaced with the ASFIR skid. I will do that after fabbing up a lower grill skid.
