I kinda like the extra shoulder room in the WK compared to the ZJ, but why did Jeep feel they needed to go even wider? The next Grand will be as wide as a Hummer!

It's not even close to Tahoe size.

The new GC is beautiful, and if you don't like it, stick to the WK &WJ threads. I'll be enjoying my new WK2 thank you

Hey, I might resemble that remark lol

Scottina06-- Yes I can see the extra width, but Im sure having the lower bumper on also helps make it look larger.

Re: Omfg

Really, how many people that buy a Jeep (or any other SUV for that matter) take their SUVs rock crawling, etc? Now and days people buy Jeeps for the cargo and family room. Jeep answers to the majority not the minority.

If you want a hardcare off road SUV then buy a Wranger.......

I'm not saying Jeep made a mistake. This Jeep will probably do well. I just don't like driving big vehicles and the WK2 may have just jumped the shark for me.

Plus, I help organize and lead trails for Grand Slam West, an annual Grand Cherokee event where we take our Grands on the trails in Moab. I have to determine what level of trail I'd be comfortable leading a WK2 on - based on the official Jeep footage from Moab, I'm inclined to restrict any potential attendees to the easier trails. (Of course, I haven't seen it live in action, I might be pleasantly surprised.)

The endless argument!
I totally agree with you that 90% will not take off road.
I disagree with the point of how important it is that the Grand Cherokee can go aggressively offroad.
Offroad capabilities is the marketing edge that Jeep has over all other SUV's, without it the Grand Cherokee is no different from any other SUV. If they allow the Offroad capabilities to disappear they will lose their distinct appeal to everyone. imo
With Quadralift I thought this GC would be a great Jeep to maintain this tradition.
However the lack of front ELSD and with Quadralift departure angles that are less than stock WJ's & WK's start to make QuadraLift look pointless & that may be what they want, or maybe the reason why it's delayed.
I will have to see what will happen. Maybe the after market will increase Quadralift and a JEEP Offroad package will provide the front ELSD.

I use all my Jeeps offroad. I would like to have a wrangler, but I like my WK's reverse sensing, heated seats, climate control, and the rest of it's comforts better than that of a wrangler.

Yea something tells me that Jeep will never lose their off road marketing

Off-Road Performance
Patriot is the real deal: confident and rugged with proven off-road capability that backs up its good looks.

In fact, it gives you ultimate Jeep® Trail Rated® off-road capability and noted Jeep® Go Anywhere, Do Anything™ attitude.

For advanced capability, choose Patriot's Trail Rated® Freedom-Drive II™ Off-Road Group with its best-in-class off-road capability[1].

Off-Road 4WD LOCK mode activates the off-road Antilock Brake System (ABS), traction control and optimized engine and transmission calibration for rock crawling. This system rocks.

The second-generation Continuously Variable Transaxle (CVT2L) has an integral low range that provides the torque multiplication needed for water fording, steep grades and crawling slowly in off-road events.

http://www.jeep.com/en/2010/patriot/...d_performance/

Jeep is marking the Jeep Patriot/Compass as off road SUVs. They even have the "trail rated" badge. Now would you take a Patriot/Compass off road in the same places that would would take the other Jeep cars? I know I wouldn't.....

Like I said above, you would be a minority, a very small group of people that take their Jeeps off road. Jeep can't make money off of minority buyers thus them making Jeeps that is gear towards the on road crowd vs the off road crowd.

Re: Omfg

Omfg-

Thanks for making my point.
Both vehicles you bring up are exactly what I am talking about. If you claim offroad you better deliver.
Neither the Compass or the Patriot delivered,
Both are gone!
Jeep reputation was hurt.
