Re: Picked up some new tires...

Dan looks great! Are you still happy with the way they are handling on your rig? I wish I went in that direction now that I see them on your Jeep!

Re: Picked up some new tires...

Thanks for the compliments

I have a 20x9 black replica on order from Factory Reproductions and a 275/40R20 Hankook at my tire shop for a spare.
Now I just need a jack and lug wrench.

How will you plug the hole, or were you kidding? haha And when you say spare is that just so you can swap it out w/o plugging the other tire or what? cause it wont help on the road being as there's nowhere to put it lol. Just curious as im looking for a solution myself without going to runflats haha

That kit has the compressor, 30 plugs, the plug tools, valve cores, valve core tool, slime, etc. I don't plan on using the slime.

Spare tire is for if I have a blowout that cannot be plugged. If it's too big to plug, swap it out.
Plenty of room for a spare.....standing up in the back in the cargo area. Lose a little space but nothing huge.

Love the handling with them. Still haven't been able to drive in the rain with them yet. Dry traction is much better than stock as I'm taking corners that I used to slide with the Goodyears and sticking and pulling through with the Vreds.

Re: Picked up some new tires...

Got my spare setup in today:

For any tire gurus....yes, I know it's a directional tire. But as it will see spare use only (and hopefully never need to use it) it won't matter if it's on the wrong side.

Re: Picked up some new tires...

Finally got a chance to run the Vreds in a good downpour tonight (and any rain at all for that matter). They do very well in the rain, definitely an upgrade over how my RSAs had been handling the rain. Very pleased with their performance

Re: Picked up some new tires...

Looks great. What made you choose that specific tire for a spare VS any other non directional tire? Are you going to keep the spare in the back of the jeep or just use it once you get home after a tire plug kit?

Re: Picked up some new tires...

Going to put the spare in the back of the Jeep on trips, possibly all the time. Still need to make a mount to secure it.

As for why that particular tire as a spare......I told my tire guy I needed a spare in that size and to get me whatever was cheapest. That tire was about $50 cheaper than the other tires in his system.

Cool.

If it will help you out at all, Go to a bone yard, find a 95+ Cherokee XJ. Go in the back and get the angeled bolt and the wing nut and half round plastic piece for the spare tire.

Then go in the back of your WK. Find some place on the floor to mount a small 2" long piece of angle iron. Drill a hole in the angle iron for the bolt from the XJ. Then mount the angle iron to the sub floor with small bolts and screws. you then feed the spare tire bolt through the hole in the angle iron and it will sit vertical in the angle iron. Then feed the bolt through the center cap hole on the wheel (whee is face down) and drop in the half round plastic piece and a washer then the wing nut. Tighten and your spare will never go any where w/o your doing so.

I did that same setup on my roof basket for my XJ and it stayed tight up on the roof for years. I will see if i can find pics of the parts and setup i am talking about.

The only side effect to this is if you remove the tire and bolt you still have the small piece of angle iron bolted to the floor.

PS, i actually make these for friends so if you want one made i will make you one shipped for free and if you dont like it just ship it back to me.

I'd be interested in some pics for sure.

And I appreciate the offer, I'd gladly kick you some coin for it too.
