I attended the event and I must say I think Jeep has hit a home run with the new Grand. It's not a double-decker but very impressive none the less.
It looks great in person. Every angle is very pleasing to the eye. The fit and finish are far above any previous Jeep product and many competitor offerings. The interior is world class. Excellent layout, feel, and room. The driving dynamics are spot on for what will be for many, primarily an on road cruiser. The whole vehicle feels as if it was carved from granite.
My only con was a surprise to me. The HEMI
. I expected the wk2 to have much better down low power. Maybe it's the weight. It's a big heavy vehicle which is begging for even more power. (Don't get me started on the v6. It's not even an option still, imho).
One of the Jeep people said 0-60 in 7.4 for the hemi, 8.4 for the six.
The power deficit was only exemplified later in the day when I visited a friend. He had just gotten a new X5 50i. (4.4L v8, twin turbo 400HP). I believe the X5 weighs more, but it's a pure rocket all over the rev range. 0-60 in 5.3 ish.
Anyway, it's a Jeep and not about straight line performance. I'd take a new WK2 over the X5 any day of the week. It's that good.
I'll wait for the first year gremlins to be corrected and will be picking up a 2012. I am sold.
