The Detail of Viking757's SRT8

Tim and I decided on Sunday to detail his 2008 Jeep SRT8. We had to make that Brilliant Black shine, so we had to do what we had to do.

I would like to thank DetailedImage.com for having all the products that we needed to get through this detail.

We took some pictures, but we were limited to time since I had work at 12PM so we woke up early and finished it.

2-Bucket Method

I approve! Paul knows his stuff and has an arsenal of products. With his help the detail went by more quickly. A huge thanks!!! Next wash it will get some Dodo purple haze wax and it should be set!

Thanks guys! Hopefully I'll have my detailing business up soon! If anyone want's their Jeep detailed in the area just PM me!

I had a great time doing this. Thanks to Tim for showing me how to use my Porter Cable. Once he got it out, he polished up his Jeep real quick. We'll get more pictures of it during the meet at Hooters.

It was a muddy detail too considering we were doing it on grass, but we still made it shine!

Best of luck with the new venture Paul.

Hope you're physically fit, if not you will be in no time. I was broken after a 9 1/2 hour shift on Saturday - then I had to change over wheels! Sunday morning I struggled to get out of bed or even move my head.

I'd suggest getting a PTG (paint thickness gauge) if you are machine polishing and to be fair I would get a rotary over a PC. Ideally you'd have both, but if you come across a car with hard clear coat (anything German) having a rotary will save a huge amount of time. It can also produce a better finish. You don't get the awful vibrations common with the PC.

I'd suggest going to a scrap yard, picking up a fender/hood, take some readings, polish and see how much paint comes off with various pad/polish combos etc.

I'm saving up for a PTG. I will look into getting a Rotary as well. Thanks for the Tip Marty. I love detailing cars. I've been reading up for a while now and I have done a lot of cars this year. Hopefully sometime this year everything will be setup.

Soon I will have a Power washer with a FoamGun attachment to get that nice thick layer of foam on the car.

My .02
I think a DA with the right pad + product combo can cut just fine and generally leave some margin for error. His Porter Cable DA didn't vibrate that bad at all. Granted I kept the speed at 4 and my paint was in decent shape so I didn't need a lot of passes, it made it pretty enjoyable. I think it all comes down to preference, education and practice....

With the Meg's Microfibre system, the DA can correct fairly good but I just find the rotary more of a pleasure to use and on harder paint it can pay for itself quick!

On customer cars with unknown histories, the PTG is a great insurance plan.

A pressure washer is very handy, but to be honest the foam gun/lance is a bit of a novelty more than anything. I have both, but most of the time the garden hose is more than enough. Foam is fun though!
