The MB trans pan has a drain plug built in and the dipstick so you dont have to go to the dealer to have them check the level.

some of that was astroturfing and shilling for the alternative product, guys going on forums and talking about the car feeling like its downshifting into first from 40 mph, which is complete bullshit - can't keep the lid on a good thing forever. You'll do fine with a pair in your car. The 144 price is the lowest I've seen. I think they're a little more now, but still a good mod, and its 100% consistent, nearly no chance of a variation or flare or fail due to a bad solenoid that needs a customer service claim and another trip under the car to replace.

George- what do you mean feels like shifting into first at 40 is BS, my youtube name is IR8GRANDSRT8 and Ive got 3 videos on there after this discussion somewhere else of my shift points after install Johan tune for proof of this. Not trying to start anything however the proof is there. Will blue tops affect warranty? Im thinking so!

I've drove a friends jeep with BBVB, I had a test BBVB in my 06 jeep, and I just installed the blue tops this last weekend and in my honest opinion I would do the blue tops.

The VB is $600 plus a core charge. You can get the blue tops for $300, hell I bought the blue tops, trans pan w/drain plug, and filter for $421 shipped. NOT bashing Bill in any way as he is a good dude and has stellar customer service.

The blue tops shift very crisp when WOT and when hard on the brakes the downshifting is sah-weet! Almost like the trans is rev-matching as another member put it. The 3-2 2-1 shifts can be hard if moving slow with the drivetrain unloaded but it does not bother me one bit. No flaring, no oddly timed shifts, no stalling, no codes, just perfect shifts.

George- I know we had spoken about this before and I just wanted to get a few other opinions. I like the idea and will probably go this route.

What George was saying is that on the other site there are the BB nut swingers. There is a perfectly good, cheaper alternative to the BBVB and there are people on the other site makes up these claims to keep people from going with other options.

Thanks for the side by side comparison. This is exactly what I was looking for when I asked the question, someone who had experienced both and what their recommendation was. I agree that BB's customer service is stellar, but look at how many of his products have had problems. I'm glad he stands behind them, but am also glad there are other alternatives out there.

Thanks for all the input guys. I guess for now it'll be blue tops and then once the trans goes out, it'll be a SHR HTC-NAG1.

Great topic Phil, its all been discussed many times through the red site, although I think with time passing since then you really got some good input here. I can only imagine what blue tops and Toona Juice would feel like! YEEEE-HAAAAAW and HANG THE FAWK ON! What do blue tops do for a warranty? I can only speculate it 'aint good! LOL!

Re: Blue top solenoids

I went to parts.com and the solenoids are 144.90 a piece but shipping for the pair was 43 bucks?! WTF? So it still comes out to $33x.xx. Still cheaper than a lot of places, but damn, 43 dollars to ship something that weighs maybe a pound?

Ad for the blue tops, I'd recommend them over the valvebody just because of the inconsistencies with the bbvb. Not to mention that they are cheaper too.

The funnier part about the shipping cost is they are coming from Barrington. When Jose bought his and some other things, shipping was around $50 and they came from the Barrington MB IIRC.

Re: Blue top solenoids

Thats weird, shipping was $48 for all 3 of my items. I didn't care because it was still way cheaper.

I never said they wouldn't affect your warranty, but no less than any of the other products out there. Warranty talk is for the camaro boards, where 95% of the guys are warranty wonks. Take 'em out before you service, if it is a concern. As for tuning it out, or if it tuned in so to speak, then it must have been the tune and not the solenoids, because mine doesn't do that. That's what I mean. Your down shifts will be firmer, but they don't throw you car into first gear at 40 mph. I don't know that it will let it go into first gear above 29 mph, if the shift point info I've seen is correct. The solenoids are a static change, if that makes any sense, not something that comes in two or three stages that have a record of being installed and renstalled to work bugs out, and they're in literally 1000s of mb cars. It certainly doesn't do it at 85 or 90 like the alternative does, at least that's what cvp33 on lx and one of the jeep posters said. The jeep poster said it was because of a wheel speed sensor, to give the facts, but I haven't had mine throw me into the windshield and I am saying that claims of it happening are rare and or overblown, or, in your case, in need of or because of an adjustment in your tune.
