Re: Blue top solenoids

George- I understand now. I met with ManDan and got the horrifying tale of his 1st gear slam at 85 mph this last sunday during an LX cruise in. Thanks for the explanation, I thought valve body would be the way to go however hearing his tale and your explanation definitely have me leaning towards blue tops. Thanx. As for warranty, I would like to retain it for the most part, drivetrain warranty Im not concerned about losing, its all the niggling little shit that goes on in electrical problems and such.

I wish I could ride along or do a test drive with someone who had the Blue Tops....

I hear you. No reason to just throw it out the window when there are gremlins and random shift control module failures out there. I had mine switched twice, before any mods to tranny or valve body solenoids, so it does pay to keep it in place when you can. Most techs probably won't ever know you have them unless you are having a tranny problem, in which case, swap em out. Good luck!

Re: Blue top solenoids

Installed the Blue tops close to a month ago and the down shifts are firmer and the upshifts as well in WOT. The only problem I am having right now is that it has enhanced my clunk on downshifts. So I have reinstalled the stock tune and the Jeep seems to act like stock except for my 2nd to 1st gear clunk that I am getting, which was present before the Blue Tops. So the dealer will not really know that I have them in. So tomorrow I plan to take my Jeep in to the dealer to see what they can do on that rear end I have. Will keep you guys posted!

Re: Blue top solenoids

I've got BB's modified VB for the 5.7L 545RFE (prototype), which he had installed when I was down in NC...he had the tech do some testing on it and so far, it delivers as advertised. The shifts are firm and get firmer as you go up in rpms. I have not had any increased clunking, but did notice a slight flare at the 2nd gear shift in the beginning, but have not been able to reproduce it. I'm thinking that the computer needed to learn the VB, for it's performing great! One thing I have noticed is that it shifts much quicker and has almost eliminated the delay between when you manually shift and when it 'actually' shifts. I don't know if the solenoids will do that, but it may be worth some consideration. I have yet to take it to the track, for I'm waiting to have my tune refined...hopefully this week. I'll keep you all posted to the outcome, once I have done a couple of runs.

Re: Blue top solenoids

UPDATE: Just had my stock Valvebody replaced for the famous Rearend Clunk and my Jeep is now shifting like butter! The only bad thing was that about a month ago I installed the Blue Tops. So now I am out 300.00 dollars, but shifting alot smoother. So for now I will be riding with out them Blue Tops til I get that itch again. So I am glad that it was not my rearend. Just thought I would report back for you guys!

Re: Blue top solenoids

I don't know about these things yet Jose, but Ive got to ask, why not pull the blue tops out of the old VB and put them in the new one? Glad to hear the clunk is gone Bro! I sent you a message about our sway bar bushings.

Re: Blue top solenoids

I spoke with Andy at MHP and am gonna stick with the modded TCM instead of the VB or the blue tops. After our discussion, I am pretty confident that it will be worth the money. I would love to find someone in the Baltimore area that has the BBVB and another person with the blue tops to do a comparison.

Re: Blue top solenoids

Phil,
Have you considered running both? From what I've heard, they work well together and MHP will work with Bill to provide a custom program to optimize the benefits of having both.

I wish I could have done that bro, but since the Jeep was at the dealer I could not tell them to do that as they could have voided my warranty on the valvebody. Was driving the jeep today and i can definitely feel that the Blue tops were making a difference on upshifts and downshifts. It sucks I lost out on them, but I will probably be installing them soon again. Also the Jeep is driving like it came off the lot and is smoother then ever. I really did not think this valvbody was going to fix my clunking issue, but glad that it did man.

Re: Blue top solenoids

The mod friendly dealer I found said do Install the MB pan with the plug and dipstick, DO NOT install the blue tops, however the writer didn't know what they were. The Tech knew all about them and showed me a couple cars in their with them, he said to do it. My modding budget has been met this time off the boat so thats a later down the road mod.
