Re: CUSTOM UPPER CONTROL ARMS 4 SRT8s

I have set of the new updated upper control arms with the new balljoint. I'm having one hell of a time. The boot on the balljoint keeps popping out from under the snap ring. I dont like the thought of the BJ grease all over the place. If any of you have yours on and have a good photo of them, could you please look to see if your boot is coming off. It's on the inside of the bj. This photo is with no wheel on and no pressure on the suspension at all. As you can see the blue boot is popping out from the snapring in the back.

Thanks damon

Hi, guys! Damon's problem was with the BJs. Marlin sent out new ones to him. He stands by his product.

I was one of the two prototype testers for this new UCA. The GY RSA run-flat tires have inner tire wear problems that become magnified after lowering. The factory stuff runs out of adjustability, and in many cases does not allow even stock camber settings to be achieved.

If you desire to lessen inner tire wear by reducing negative camber, there was no option until these new UCAs were produced. They are also much beefier than the stock stuff and the BJ is bolt-in.

With this UCA you can now go to Zero camber if you want! Forget about premature inner tire wear on your lowered rig.

Re: CUSTOM UPPER CONTROL ARMS 4 SRT8s

Its weird, Im slammed all the way and my camber is very near spec. It may be a little bit out but its certainly a solid help in the handling aspect. I dont see $45 being justified in my case and Im sure for many others but it def would be a cool option for guys who have issue with the stock goodyears or anyone else who is noticing uneven tire wear.

Are there any other known issue an negative out of spec camber can cause as far as the front suspension goes? I dont see where as mine out like .3-.4 degrees maybe?

Re: CUSTOM UPPER CONTROL ARMS 4 SRT8s

I'm maxed out with factory adjustment and at -0.7* to -0.9* on each side. Still technically within spec though.

Also, my upper ball joints are at a pretty extreme angle.....already toasted one when it had 15,000 miles on it. It only had play at the angle of ride height, straightened out it had zero play. So the angle may not be helping.
I may change out to these if/when I kill another ball joint.

Re: CUSTOM UPPER CONTROL ARMS 4 SRT8s

thats it anthony, they can get it close. they want it IN. they seemto have an issue with INNER front tire wear that causes premature tread seperation.

somewhere around 20-30 K miles on the stock goodyears they seem to see this. so its not REAL bad where the tires are ruined in 2 thousadn miles/

This may be a better reason to go with these UCAs. The ball joint is beefier and is angled to compensate for the angulation of the A-arm after lowering.

That being said, inner tire wear may be accentuated with run-flat tires. Someone on another forum postulated that the stiffness of the sidewalls may not allow the tire to flex and adapt to the road like a normal radial, which puts the wear on the inside edge. Makes sense to me, but I can't say whether it's true or not.

Re: CUSTOM UPPER CONTROL ARMS 4 SRT8s

Yes, I am not a fan of runflats.....and feel the RSAs are the wrong tire for the Jeep. LOL.

My Vreds are wearing evenly....albeit they don't have many miles yet since they came off for the winter. But they appear to have more wear on the outer edge from hard cornering vs. the inner edge from camber.

The beefier ball joint at a better angle is why I will most likely eventually have the new UCAs
