Re: Wavetrac Rear Diff. for Jeeps?!?!?!

FINALLY got around to creating a profile on this forum!

Add me to the list of those in anticipation of the Wavetrac for our rigs! Kudos to Harrison, George, and all the folks at SHR for getting the word out and making this a possibility.

Re: Wavetrac Rear Diff. for Jeeps?!?!?!

Heard from SHR that they've having delays in getting materials, not just our project, but in general. I haven't gotten an update directly from them, but SHR sent me that message this weekend. Was hoping for better news than that. Will keep updated.

George

Re: Wavetrac Rear Diff. for Jeeps?!?!?!

Pretty much as sent to me:

Hi George,

We are unfortunately delayed on these diffs. Material supply is a big problem here in the USA these days. We are back to really long delays from the steel mills on bar stock. We finally got material in for this diff project, and had to send it back in December due to quality issues when we tried to stress relieve it before
machining. We now have new material and are under way. The bottom line is
that we are 4-6 weeks from getting our first parts now, primarily from the
delay in getting material and then having to return it.
Sorry for the problems, but we are in the same boat as most manufacturing
companies nationwide right now.... Material delays are horrendous. We are
now being quoted from 30-50 weeks lead time, just to get steel bar!
Fingers crossed, we wont have more delays in processing these new parts and
we will have a diff to fit in February.
Thanks for your patience.
Regards,
Dana

Dana's been pretty much upfront and responsive to update requests. This is the latest as of this am. Sort of like supercharger time, where everything takes twice as long as a law of physics. Two positive to take from this:
1. I'd rather them use stock that will hold versus whatever comes in the door just to get a unit out; and
2. Nice news is they're "underway" and looks like 4-6 weeks for the first unit to fit.

Will certainly keep updated as I get information.

George

Re: Wavetrac Rear Diff. for Jeeps?!?!?!

Update from Dana this afternoon:

"Should have the first article diffs completed by 3/18.

The process is going slower than hoped, but at least all the parts in in process now, and its just a matter of running through the system. I will speed it up any chance I have, but am confident that we can meet the March date.

So there you go. That's the latest, with a date to which we can look forward."

Thanks for the update, George! Trust me, I've been doing my best not to badger you for updates on this one...

Re: Wavetrac Rear Diff. for Jeeps?!?!?!

I've been sort of low key in bothering them, and they've been forthcoming with intel as its available. I post the updates as soon as I get them. Trying not to pester them. They want to get it to market, had some steel delays, but are looking to get it out in mid March. All in all, that's not too bad.

Stuff like this, we know its like supercharger time. Always slower than expected. I think this would have been done sooner if I had sent them a rear sooner and if they had not had stock that failed the stress relief process they use.

Moving forward....

Re: Wavetrac Rear Diff. for Jeeps?!?!?!

Is tomorrow still the planned 'unveiling' for the Wavetrac?

Update from the connection

I am posting here to help Eddie at Southern Hot Rod get information about our new Cherokee SRT8 rear diff to everyone, as we are experiencing delays due to extremely heavy workloads in the plant.
First, we had longer than expected material supply delays to start the job. Thankfully, for this job, we finally got the required material and put that headache behind us.
We are fortunate that Wavetrac sales are growing at a tremendous pace – we think it’s in no small part because we make a well-designed product that is very high quality, right here in the USA. The downside of becoming so popular so quickly is that demand for Wavetrac has outpaced our current capacity to make them. We will not sacrifice quality to close the gap, so we are doing our best to add capacity however we can.
We appreciate your business and thank you for your patience on this project. Please understand that we will do our best to get the Wavetrac diffs to our customers as quickly as possible without losing sight of why they have become so popular – a great diff that you can count on.
Here is the most current information on the Wavetrac differential project for WK SRT8:
There are two main components that are the issues here: housings and side gears.
The housings are made in two pieces. One half has returned from black oxide finishing and will be hard turning on the next available machine. The other half has been heat treated and will join the first half on the hard turning queue late next week.
We have two dedicated hard turning work cells (4 machines total) and there are currently about 4-5 jobs ahead of the WK diffs. This means that the housings for the new diff should be ready sometime in the week of April 11th .
The side gears are the next topic. Side gears are currently being made and are expected to be completed during the week of April 18th. We are working on getting that improved.
Once the side gears and housings are completed and are in hand at our assembly area, the diffs will be built up and packaged for shipment to Southern Hotrod.
We will do our best to improve this schedule. I will post an update here next Friday March 25th.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Dana
