Wavetrac Rear Diff. for Jeeps?!?!?!

Many of you know Sarge(Sgt.Stanko). He's got one quick Jeep for sure. This is posted over on the Connection and I thought I'd post this here too to see if any of you guys are interested. I've been waiting for someone to hook our asses up!! Finally it could be here...... TRACTION!!!

It is my understanding that Wavetrac is currently ready to develope and fabricate another great option for those of us that can not afford $5,000 for a Ford "8.8 or Ford"9 limited slip or posi-traction rear end differential. Who needs all the whining, noise and oil leaking experienced with the Ford 8.8??? As you know once we increase power, traction becomes a problem. The DANA 44 is a great rear differential and has been around in the Jeep forever. Our DANA44 is a metric version and the slight change to the ring and pinion gives us absolutely no option for upgrade compared to the standard Dana44 and the Super44. The non metric version of course has a tremendous option capability but finally the metric version is finally getting attention!

The option of installing a Ford rear end means a drive shaft, transfer of disc brake systems and of course the cost of the unit plus installation of the unit. We have recently seen the success of JDOC using the Wavetrac unit in his Western Differential Ford 9".

George/Muellge (thanks George) shipped (at his costs) his Jeep rear end to Wavetrac in order to spark their interest to support our community. The end result is Wavetac is ready to fabricate a unit to fit our factory Dana44, however Wavetrac is not willing to begin fabrication unless they get a absolute minimum order. They state that since the Jeep SRT8 is a low production vehicle they are reluctant to jump in and completely absorb the development/fabrication costs. They stated that the costs for the unit will be $1,100. which falls in line with the Wavetrac systems for the BMW 3&5 Series, Mercedes AMG Series, Chrysler LX&LY, Porsche, Honda, Ford and GM. Obviously high horsepower/torque is not an issue!

If we can get ten(10) members to commit to $500.00 we can finally have a limited slip unit that fits our metric DANA44!! This is a no brainer......$1,100 vs $5,000!! This is FAR more exciting and performance useful than a Mopar TCM, Throttle body or cat back!! This will allow us to FINALLY get the power to the ground without spending $5,000!!!

Also you can install 4:11 gears from Richmond.....disconnect the driveshaft and now pick up 2-3/10's.

What do you say??? Any interest to get this thing finally built for our community???

Wavetrac paid in full. According to Joanne at SHR, they should be shipping by the end of the week. Woot woot!

Thanks for all the hard work on this George and big props to SHR for stepping up and making it happen!

I cant imagine how pathetic those mod's lives are to work so hard for free! "We know your name's on other forums", how freaking pathetic.

What all is needed besides just the wavetrac itself? Any addional parts?

Going to start asking around on pricing to have this installed.

PML cover like this:

or this:

TOP NOTCH!

#158 ·
is this only for srt

This will work on any 226mm Dana 44 rear. I believe only the commander, SRT8 and a few of the WK's have them.

I have an 05 wk rwd...will this work on my rig and give me posi traction/lsd vs just the passenger rear wheel turning like it does stock?

#161 ·
Here's what it "should" work on:

Jeep WK SRT8 06-09
Jeep WK with 2WD Hemi 5.7 05-09 (limited and overland)
Jeep XK with 2WD Hemi 5.7 05-09 (limited and overland)

I got this out of the how to for the PML rear diff cover thread. You should verify on your build sheet which rear axle you have.

Harrison, mondo, sbardy and rmon have. Did you get yours George? I sold mine since I don't really need it up here with the loss in power at altitude.

Yes it arrived at SHR last week. It took a little longer because it came on common freight shimmed into the rear end I sent them. ;) Will be some work to swap over the rotors, et al., but will give it a blast of black paint and hopefully be running soon.

Sorry to hear that you sold yours, but someone gets one out of it, so that's good.

Awesome George, Congrats!

Those look sweet! And that diff cover is the tits! Looks awesome, almost makes you want to raise the back end of the Jeep now :D

But what are the stock shafts made of, just curious? Guessing you are replacing these just for fun while you do the rear, I mean Im also assuming the stocker would take up in the 800+whp range, seem to be beefy.

Wow George, those look great bud!

Anyone with results yet? Waiting to hear before purchasing.

George- how much were the axles?

Well there is at least one person with a unit installed. ME!

Mine is in in and for certain it works as advertised! Didn't realize how much wheel spin I was getting until I put this in. Crap was flying out of the dash compartments. What a great mod. Thanks for making Wavetrac and thanks SHR for the install. No howling at highway speeds. For those interested, 75w-140 Mopar stock fill was used, no LS additive for a torque biasing unit. it was already shimmed in from Wavetrac, so can't tell you how many shims are needed.

The axles were about 420ish shipped, and that was with my old ones and a hub coming back with them. (think more than double the weight). I don't think the axles are an issue, but I figured while I was in there beef them up.

It needs to go soon to see what it can do. The heat is what it is. I ran one of my best times in 87 degree heat on May 30th a year ago. so I'll give it a shot, maybe catch an 80 degree evening. 11.01 @ 127.61. Figuring I can gain improve 1/100th on the 60ft now. If I leave 400 lbs in the pits and load it up with rocket fuel, that might help too. When I eventually get these pulleys (below) produced and on (currently under construction), should be lots of fun, with no belt slip...
