So is it safe to assume the head unit (130S/RES) of the stock 6 speaker system directs frequencies to the appropriate speakers i.e. the front tweeter/woofer and the rear midrange? If so, what effect would installing external crossovers that come with aftermarket component systems have - overkill or more ability to taylor the frequencies? Do they really need to be installed on the base system if the headunit is already doing that job?

ps - i know you upgraded the Alpine system vs the stock system

Re: 12' Altitude Stereo Overhaul

But did you tap the rear door speakers for a full range output and let the LC7i split it or did you tap each one? (Front doors, rear doors, subwoofer?)

I would think if there are crossover already built in then you could bypass the aftermarket ones. Might not sound as good but adding the aftermarket ones on top of that would be overkill. Never heard or played with the 6 speaker setup so I'm just guessing.

I tapped each one but that sounded like crap, so I summed the rears to the main. Sounded better but still didn't like it.

Jealous. I need to get back from this deployment so I can finally enjoy my Jeep again.

Well back from honeymoon and this Saturday the JL audio stealthbox goes in, the DNX890HD goes in, along with some RRO super sliders that I ordered on an impulse. Will post pictures.
