19 Speakers - Dissapointed

for a 2015 Summit with 19 HK speakers I'm very disappointed with the sound....... Need the volume at 20 to hear anything and the max of 32 is not as overpowering as I think it should be. Anyone else agree?

Re: 19 Speakers - Dissapointed

Nope. What input are you listening to? I think the radio has to be turned up higher than the ipod or SD card. My XM is definitely the quietest of the bunch, that one might get somewhere around 20. I've never been anywhere close to the 30's with my volume.

Try going to the equalizer and turning up the mids and treble. The HK stereo is very bass heavy, so turning those up will give you better sound without overwhelming bass. Oh, turn on surround sound also, I think that livens it up a bit.

No issue here either except with xm which sounds like crap. That is a compressed signal issue with xm though not a problem with the HK. If your issue is when using xm then try a different format like SD. Huge difference in sound quality between the two.

Re: 19 Speakers - Dissapointed

As discussed by many others, you are not quite wrong regarding the volume but it is really entirely dependent on the source. XM actually sounds a little louder than my SD or IPOD source (that however is also subject to the actual recording itself)- if I have my volume set at 18 for my IPOD, and then switch to Sirius- the radio is much louder. If it is too quiet, just adjust the equalizer or turn up the volume. Your post gives no information on the quality of sound which is much more important than the volume which requires just a quick turn of the knob. I wouldn't categorize your finding as a disappointment. The HK stereo is actually one of the more pleasant bonuses for those who have it and it NEVER disappoints. Besides the volume, what do you think of the sound quality with the exception of Sirius? How else is it a disappointment?

Greetings,

Here is a link to a thread in the main section that gives you more pros and cons:

From the horses mouth on the Harman Kardon System

First of all, as everybody says, the SirusXm tune that Jeep uses is not the same as the one used in the aftermarket world, thus not the best source to judge by. Second, if you are coming from a vehicle that you think had a better sound system than this one, you are probably right. Last, but not least, Jeep designs sound systems designed for the mass not for the audiophile or those close to that level.

Is it a step above the Alpine Premium system? It is a step above.

Best for now.

Bitrate has little to do with volume, but will affect quality.

Sometimes you might want to turn down lower bitrate source because it sounds less pleasant

It is possible the OP has a problem with his system.

But I agree start with a known good source (e.g. SD/USB) first.

Re: 19 Speakers - Dissapointed

I just picked up a 2015 Summit and no disappointment. I have owned many "premium" sound systems including the BMW one and the Mark Levinson in Lexus and the JGC is comparable to both of them. Quality is good, sounds are clear, loudness is a bit lacking. It is one of the better stock "premium" sounds I have heard but you can do better aftermarket IMO. If loudness is what is desired, aftermarket is the only way to go.

Re: 19 Speakers - Dissapointed

I do agree.....some songs sound great but others have WAY too much bass and distort. Equalizer helps but is not a fix and a pain to adjust for every song. I use a Constant Bit Rate of 320kbps with maximum quality. Is there a maximum bitrate or any other limitations for the audio system? I am trying to correlate the songs with bad audio with the encoding used (I use media monkey to convert originals like FLAC to 320 kbps). Thanks

The culprit is most likely the source- the actual recording that is the problem not the HK system. Some songs already have a lot of bass- and is amplified much more on this system because of the subwoofer. There is not a lot one can do in adjustments. The only fault I find is that it does not allow you to store different sound settings like other systems.

Re: 19 Speakers - Dissapointed

I have to respectively disagree for my case, its the HK system (it exaggerates bass without any way to correct the audio). The same exact MP3 files sound wonderful in both my other car and on my home stereo.

There are equalizer apps out there that can really enhance the sound from your smart phones.

There are plenty ,so you have to see which one you like best.

I'm using one now and it really helps.
