Re: 2012 GC Backup Camera Problem

I have the Mopar light bar /w camera and trying to decide if it's worth doing myself or having the dealer do it. The instructions look a little scary.

Depending on what your dealer is going to charge, you may want to just have them do it. I've read about people who are quoted $300ish for the lightbar with the camera and installation. That's a fantastic value and I would definitely go that route if given the opportunity. I paid $225 just for the light bar, and my dealer was going to charge $500+ just for the install. At that price, I'm happy I did it myself. It's one of those things that I could do in half the time it initially took me, now that I know how it works.

The hardest parts were trying to figure out what connects where, since the instructions don't tell you. They just say "make the connection at the rear liftgate," for example. Also, I had a huge problem removing the power outlet (cigarette lighter) from the front console, which you have to do for power to the camera. There's a special tool that I suggest you buy in advance, if you plan on doing it yourself. Your dealer could probably let you borrow one or sell you one.

Good luck. I suggest you set aside a nice sunny Saturday if you're going to do it yourself. I did it over the course of two nights and one day and working at night sucks and makes everything take twice as long.

Kevin

Re: 2012 GC Backup Camera Problem

Well I finally bought the back-up camera light bar and had the dealer install it. I also had them install the wiring for a trailer hitch since my Jeep didn't come pre-wired. The experience with the dealership was a nightmare.

I got the parts from JustForJeeps. They wired the hitch lighting wrong and tried to blame me for buying the parts on-line, then said the instructions were wrong. Also the back-up camera doesn't work. It just goes to a black screen and they said it was due to a faulty camera.

They finally fixed the hitch wiring and now working to fix and possibly replace the camera. I feel like these guys don't know what they are doing and just winging it. They've been cooperative so far but wasted a lot of my time. I paid about $400 for both installs excluding the price of the parts. We will see how this turns out.

Re: 2012 GC Backup Camera Problem

When I first installed mine, I had some installed the wires incorrectly in the C3 connector and had a black screen.

If I were you I would quickly pull the nav unit out and check how the wires were installed. Also maybe confirm they ran new wire, pull up the drivers side scuff plate and check?

See my post..
