My install is in two weeks. The shop needs it for a day and a half. My only other ride is a 4 spd muscle car, and a bit tricky to drive one handed, so I had to delay the install by a couple weeks.

Here are a couple of ideas. I know we can reduce some of the bulk of the knob by taking the knob out of the metal box. But I'm not sure how much room will be left behind the double din mounting plates. I stole this pic from a thread here on jeepgarage. This isn't my ride, but I can't remember who's pic this is:

Another option would be in this rather useless little tray. It would be in pretty easy reach, and if I sell the Jeep and remove the stereo, I could just replace the rubber mat, and you'd never know it had been there:

Your first option, next to the headunit, won't work. No room whatsoever there trust me. Option 2 would be better, however not an easy task.

Re: 2012 WK2 Stereo Overhaul

I thought about this as well for when I do mine.

I was thinking inside the storage door under the AC controls.

+1 Mount it forward for easy access.

I thought about that, and it's a good idea, but I'm not sure I want to flip the door up every time to adjust the bass.

I listen to some bass heavy music, and at the louder volumes, I tend to adjust it from song to song.

With that said, I'm not sure I'm sold on the change holder location either. Still open to suggestions, the more the merrier.

Re: 2012 WK2 Stereo Overhaul

I also thought about just buying an extra dash bezel or trim piece and using one of these locations.

I'd love to have an up and down button with +/- integrated in with the other buttons, but I don't think it's really feasible.

After mulling it over awhile, I am going to just put up with flipping the door for now. Doing the install tomorrow so I will let you know what I think of it in that location.

Please post pics and let me know how you like it. It would be easy enough to just leave the door flipped open all the time.

Re: 2012 WK2 Stereo Overhaul

Well...got it all installed. With the size of the JL Audio RLC switch I ended up placing it in inside the middle console (below your elbow) opposite the 12volt power source. There wasn't enough room to put it in the storage compartment below the A/C Controls.

I will snap some pictures this evening and get them posted up.

Initial impression in the meantime: I like it. I spent 20 minutes adjusting it and the factory EQ to come up with a happy medium and am so far very pleased. The missing bass has returned and I haven't felt a need to fiddle with it so the location of the knob is of little concern. That could change however so I will report back once I have had the opportunity to enjoy it some more.
