Re: 2012 WK2 Stereo Overhaul

Thanks for the info! It looks like if I need to add anything other than just FM radio then a new antenna would be needed. I assumed there was an adapter of some sort

Anyways, I read an install done by a member on JF and he said he mounted the GPS antenna on top of the HU. I'm wondering, on top of it while under the dash?? I sent him a message but the last activity was April, no reply. Sigh

I saw that thread about placing the antenna on top of the HU.

This is only semi related, but I have a GPS speedo in my '67 and I tried mounting the reciever/sender under the dash and the metal dash blocked the signal most of the time. I was eventually able to mount it under the dash where there used to be a center channel speaker so it could "see" the signal through the grates better.

I would not mount an antenna under the dash. Too much stuff to get in the way.

Here's a pic I found on a Dodge forum. It looks like they mounted the GPS and Sirius antennas on top of the metal dash, but under the padded dash cover. I don't know what our dash boards look like underneath, but this would be a nice clean option:

Re: 2012 WK2 Stereo Overhaul

Oh hell, I think I will go ahead and give that 'on top of HU' a try... if it doesn't work, I'll let my wife hold the antenna hahaha...(don't tell her I said that ) I hope it's not brand specific, the antenna sensitivity I mean. The ones I googled were mostly referring to Kenwood HUs.

Re: 2012 WK2 Stereo Overhaul

How is the alpine amp working for you? Enough to drive front components, rears in the doors and the 10" stealth box? Did you do anything with the center speaker in the dash or the rear "fill" in the back above the rear seat deck? Was also thinking about going with the focal components in the fronts...looking for a smooth all around sound with good tonal quality without breaking the bank. The alpine amp will do that for me haha. Thanks man

The Alpine is great. Plenty of power to drive all the speakers. I have had great luck with Alpine amps, I have 3 of them in the '67.

The Laredo doesn't have a center channel or rear fill, so I can't help you there.

Nice install. How did the 6 1/2's install in the front? Is there an adapter I could buy? Thanks in advance

There is an adapter that let's you install a 5 1/4 or 6 1/2 speaker into a 6 X 9 opening. Check out Crutchfield.com

No issue with speaker depth?

If you use Crutchfield's Outfit My Car it will tell you which speakers fit. However some speakers which Crutchfield says won't fit actually do fit.

Yes, OP says he put 6 1/2's up front. Crutchfield says only 5 1/4's fit. I'm wondering what was done to install those. I'm looking to put the exact same speakers in my 12' altitude.

All you need is the speaker adapter that will let you install a 6 1/2 into a 6 X 9 opening. You'll also need a wiring adapter to hook up after market speakers with the Jeep wiring.
