2013/14 RHB (430N) - any Nav update success stories?
I thought it might be a good idea to start a separate thread for some data-gathering on what seems to be the most difficult radio to update the Nav for, since 2013/14 RHB owners cannot proceed with map updates the way 2011/12 RHB owners can. Hoping to collect some information and knowledge sharing for this particular radio/years. Many thanks to all on this forum and several others who have contributed their work and knowledge towards this subject.
Has anyone had any success updating the Nav maps on their 2013/14 RHBs? It seems to be the problem-child of all the MyGig systems. I've spent a lot of time reading through this forum and several others, and it doesn't sound as though 2013/14 RHB owners have had any manner of luck at all. Even users who have made the $150 purchase through Chrysler for the official update SD cards are having issues (and those maps are reported to be several versions old).
I was able to load the 2016.10 image file from my handheld Garmin as a supplemental map on the RHB and that seems to have worked. Downside is, Junction View file would not load. I've tried several methods to load the .jcv, and no dice. I'm on RHB15 (5.11) firmware (with Radio firmware 50.01.01). I've tried 33.xx.xx and 50.00.07 Radio firmware but the Garmin firmware does not change with a downgrade. Interestingly, as of now, the xml file reports that I have the OEM 2013 map loaded along with their junction file and no supplemental mapfile is reported, but the "map info" screen on the RHB shows that I only have the 2016.10 version loaded. I verified that the system was indeed using the 2016.10 map...new streets show up, and no junction views appear (so file is not being accessed).
So some limited success. The map image file at least contains lane assist, but it would be great to figure out how to perform a full upgrade. Anyone else with the 2013/14 RHB have similar or greater success?
A side note - I also learned from a user on the Wrangler forum that to access the service/engineering mode you press the media, radio and menu buttons at the same time. The radio has to be off to do this. I was hopeful it would show the firmware filesystem, but it does not. I performed a "restore factory defaults" as I thought possibly this would restore the Garmin firmware to the original version. It does not. The restore took about 10 seconds and simply wiped personal data from the firmware (GPS home location, custom POIs, etc) and also had no effect on the installed supplemental map.
