2014 8.4 Uconnect WifFi Interface Kit

Greetings,

For those who have the 2014 8.4 and a factory rear view camera, here is an interesting interface for wifi from Cruz. Make your smartphone IOS or Android mirror onto your screen. Sounds like a solution around Apple's Carplay or the forth coming Google Auto Link.

CRUX Interfacing Solutions ::: WVICH-03

Since, I have no experience with the 8.4 Uconnect, I am not sure if the OEM Navigation voice instructions will play in the background while you are in the Wifi mirroring mode or in the reverse with OEM nav displayed on the screen and wifi source playing in background. Also, how does the phone accept and make calls from the Uconnect bluetooth.

Best for now.

Awesome, nice find! How did you come across that? I have been searching but haven't come across this. The trouble now is I don't see where to buy it.

Greetings,

Try this link from Cruz:

CRUX Interfacing Solutions ::: Where to Buy

Give them a call next week to find out more and other tech support questions. Cruz has really made some major advances over the last couple of years.

Best for now.

Greetings,

Since I do not have a 2014 8.4 Uconnect, I guess if you want to use the OEM navigation you will have to. Otherwise, you can use the many different navi apps for both IOS and Android. Just remember, you will be controlling all the operations off your smartphone or tablet, with the output also being displayed on the OEM 8.4 screen. This does give you a great deal of options to choose from. Including improving your GPS signal via an external device such as Bad Elf for IOS or the Dual bluetooth GPS antenna's, just to name a few.

Best for now.

This gave me the idea to simply hook up a miracast adapter to my RAX Jailbreak kit. Boom wireless mirroring of my android devices.

Nice product if it includes lockout bypass for the regular uconnect system as well...

Great idea, but can you control the phone interface on the 8.4 screen?

Re: 2014 8.4 Uconnect WifFi Interface Kit

Greetings,

Correct, their is no touch screen control off the factory OEM 8.4 display using the Cruz set up..

The advantage with this system is you have complete access to your device to do what ever you want. The question becomes, is this another means for distraction driving? If you have a large screen on your smartphone or tablet then it will be at least easier to do the inputing. The nice big 8.4 screen will show your output.

When I was designing my system to replace the 430 with out navi Uconnect, I was considering keeping the factory unit and integrate an iPad into it with one of the lock pick systems. For me, I find that 2 screens does not distract my attention. (For city driving and short trips, especially in my area I would not use 2 screens.) In fact, you can see what you want at that moment and not have press buttons to get to the other source. For example in the Uconnect environment: having a the OEM navi up (8.4) and Spotify on the other screen. Or your music from the Uconnect and the navi off the tablet. Assuming you can do this using the Cruz set up. This system looks like this type of integration could be even easier. For now, I settled on the Pioneer AppRadio 3.

The disadvantage of course, you do not have one source to do your selection and display. These system are being designed around safe and not be distracted while driving as best as they can get them to work. Thus the convince of the Apple CarPal and Google Auto Link.

So far, I have not come across any information on how Chrysler is going to handle the forthcoming platforms. Which is why the integration companies are producing work around solutions for this problem. From my understanding, the aftermarket headunit solution to replace the 8.4 to get access to the platforms is not coming any time soon.

Best for now.

Yeah it's really wierd how Chrysler is one of the only companies not announced as committed to either Carplay or OAA/GAL. Allpar talked about this in March and it looks like Chrysler isn't making any partnership announcements. I'm just not sure what Chrysler is up to.

I emailed Crux this morning about where to purchase this kit; got a response back within an hour from an authorized dealer in California. These units are in stock with them and are $369.00 + $5.00 ground shipping: iCarKits - WVICH-03.

I might be the guinea pig for this - been wanting to be able to stream SlingBox (live TV) to the 8.4" screen in my GC. For my passengers, of course.
