Hello,

I have a 2014 GC Limited with the stock 6 speaker system. I am looking into upgrading the audio system. I am HOPING to do it on my own. Looking for some suggestions. I imagine this will cost roughly $900 or so for a pretty complete upgrade.

Guides would be helpful as well!

Thanks in advance!

Greetings and welcome,

Sticking with your budget, you can change out the speakers to something better. Plenty of posts here in the forum regarding that. Popular choices are FOCAL, Polk, Alpine, HAT and Infinity name brands. Once you get into amplification and sub woofers your budget is going increase tremendously.

The difference manly in the speakers comes down to the tweeter. Some tweeters such as Focal and JBL, for example, use a metal based tweeter that produces a bright harsh sound. Other tweeters are made from a natural material such as silk or something similar to give a natural and smooth sound opposite of the metal tweeter. It really comes down to the type musical genres you listen too.

Best for now.:)

I am looking to do the same . . . However, it really comes down to COST! Those Focal and HAT speakers, for example, are bloody expensive! WOW!
I might need to focus a little lower on the ladder . . . :(

Greetings,

The lower line of both the HAT and Focal you get for a decent price.

HAT Stage II is comparable to Focal and others in the $300.00 range for the fronts. My HAT Stage 6 is bloody expensive and the new one coming out, forgot about it.

It is about how you appreciate the sound.

Best for now.:)

Hello,

I'm usually all about specs. I can't really find the specs on the speakers of the 6 speaker system for comparison to potential upgrades.

Do you mind providing a few suggestions of what would be a pretty cost efficient speaker upgrade? I listen to a lot of indie and rock. Not sure what type of tweeter is best for that. I found this for the lower front and rear speakers as far as compatibility: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_091RCX130/Focal-RCX-130.html?avf=Y

Thanks!

Greetings and welcome,

To tell you the truth, I am not sure of the specs for the stock 6 system. But, I can tell you that they are most likely the same as in the Alpine system. The front door is a 6x9 and 1 inch soft dome tweeter. The rear is 6.5 coaxial with a soft dome tweeter. Both magnets are extremely light that a 1 year old can toss them across the room. In another words, they are cheap........

Based upon your musical genre, I would look into a 6.5 speaker which is better for the mid bass punch for both doors. You also be able to hear more detail in the drums. I would still look for a soft dome tweeter. The better ones are made out of silk and other synthetic materials are not bad these days.

Best for now.:)

I have been following this post as I would also like to upgrade! I found these speakers for sale: Hertz HSK1654 Car audio speakers BNIB $350 OBO or these ones: Focal 165KR, Polykevlar car speakers $425 OBO and wondered if either ones are a good price/fit for my Jeep? I know nothing about Hertz & Focal speakers? I don't like too bright speakers and listen to all genres of music! Will they sound OK running on my OEM deck power or do I really need an amp? :D

... Hertz HSK1654 ... Focal 165KR ... do I really need an amp? :D
- Both appear to be surface mount. Get more info. (Even if not, Crutchfield configurator says Focals do not fit.)

- Both are 6.5's. Without adapters will not work in front.

- Both are components. If using in rear will have to deal with tweeter mounting.

- Both have complex external crossovers. While this is generally a good thing, several issues arise. They will have to be mounted somewhere. I have no idea if there is room inside the door. Also, they will 'consume' power that otherwise would be available for the speaker. While the speakers would emit sound, not sure how ideal it would be without more amplification than stock HU provides.
