Considering that route myself. I have a '15 High Altitude and I am very happy with the Harman system with the exception of the "subwoofer". Its not tight on the mid bass and muddy/weak on the low bass.

If the Harman "subwoofer" behaved like the Bazooka bass tubes, you could turn down the bass at the head unit (taking bass from the mid-hi speakers) and have a pleasant sounding system. Boomy around 45hz, but better than what is there now.

Is the Harmon a 10" and is the enclosure rigid? Isn't the enclosure different than the Alpine? Can't imagine it's as good as the Stealthbox enclosure, but please tell me considerably improved over the Alpine.

Had one of these in my 2012, and plan on adding one to my 2014 also. For the LC2i, where did you tap the wire to? On my 12 I did a full install with head unit and all, but with the 14 and everything integrated just doing the sub

Re: 2014 GC Limited - Sub Upgrade - JL Stealthbox

Just did the install yesterday-

@ Mophead- The Harman enclosure is plastic, not sure if it is stiffer than the Alpine, but it is not well suited for a serious subwoofer.

@ subbie09- I tapped the high level wires to the base module and ran them to the high level inputs on the LC2i. Ran ground and power to the amp and used them to supply the LC2i as well.

Re: 2014 GC Limited - Sub Upgrade - JL Stealthbox

One more thing subbie09...

There was a relay/wiring box about the size of a deck of cards that I had to relocate in order to get the Stealthbox fully seated against the side wall. I don't know if that is the case in the 2014 but pay close attention that you get the box all the way against the wall. Even though the depth difference is only an about an inch, it will prevent your last two panels from installing correctly. As I found out the hard way.

This is not mentioned in the Stealthbox instructions so the relay/wiring box may be a change for the 2015 model.

Many people have commented that the Stealthbox sounds like a pair of 12's and now I understand why. I am running it with a Rockford Fosgate R500X1D with the gain set to min and this thing QUAKES!

Re: 2014 GC Limited - Sub Upgrade - JL Stealthbox

When the sub has its' own amp, does the factory amp increase its' output to the rest of the speakers? I understand it would not split the entire 506/825 watts (Alpine/HK) but do more watts to the remaining channels increase because there is less load? Is it significant?

Yes it's a module for the back up sensors. I had to relocate on my 2012 when I added the stealth box. I loved it then and will add it to my 2014 in the spring.

Greetings,

Agreed, both OE's subs are not for a serious subwoofer.

The best enclosure is either a fiberglass or a wood material. The plastic material can be stiffen, but it will still effect the volume of air being pushed especially when you introduce a much better driver. Plastic is the OE's cheaper way out.

That being said, it pays to save up and get either the Stealhbox or a custom box and get the max volume out of the enclosure.

Best for now.

2014 GC Limited - Sub Upgrade - JL Stealthbox

I added dynamat to my stock sub box and it made a very noticeable difference in overall sound. Granted it's not going replicate an aftermarket sub.... but you definitely tell there is a sub in the back.

Re: 2014 GC Limited - Sub Upgrade - JL Stealthbox

Hey dirk41mvp - thanks for your write up, it was very helpful for my own install:

JL Audio Stealthbox and Amp Install - Detailed Photos and Resources

For others who are interested in doing this install you do not need a Line Output Converter or remote if you are hooking up an amp like the JL XD600. The amp has built signal detection.
