That may end up being the only option, but I'd still like to stick with OEM if possible.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

I would not be surprised if Jeep UConnect development was talking to Garmin right about now.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

Greetings,

Actually, Jeep has to be talking first to Harman and then Harman has to talk to Garmin. If I remembered correctly, Garmin was given the HERE map database to write the GPS software from Harman who is the licensee of the map database. Add to the complexity, Harman also has the operating system sub contractor out to QNX, which is a positive thing because adjustments can be made rather easily.

If that is the case, maybe Harman instead will use Garmin's full blown GPS software that uses the top-tier map data from HERE. Just as Kenwood aftermarket headunits agreements with Garmin. At least the track record for map updates is around 10 to 18 months. The only unknown, is the current hardware in the 2014 able to accept the change and run it.

Because of the nature of the informant system we have here, it is in FCA best interest to become transparent with their customer base. Ford listen to their base and sacked Microsoft for a QNX based system. We have no idea about the contract between Uconnect and Harman that is effecting us now and possibly into the long term.

Best for now.

Agree whatever the OEM solution is that is what mine will be as i plan on holding their feet to the fire on this and i personnal am not going to spend a dime on this except the $149 or whatever the going rate is on a map update. If they need to start changing hardware units out to allow for map updates then they better start production because not ever having a map update is not an option here.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

Reading over these posts I think we're getting ahead of reality. If there is a successful bidder for HERE, there is no doubt they are going for the whole enchilada, to do less would be financial suicide. I seriously doubt they have plans to reinvent the wheel, balance it better perhaps.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

I just wrote Chrysler saying HERE , the mapping company for my 2014 Summit no longer supports my 8.4AN unit. So what is Chrysler going to do about my less than 1 year old vehicle and thousand of other owners with 3 plus year old maps. I think this is a very clear and specific question. Everyone needs to start with this. I am pissed about this. This is my 4th GC and this has been my worse experience of customer support. Chrysler knows exactly what's going on and continues to sell these units. They need to have a path forward and inform us.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

Someone like Apple could buy HERE just for the map data, and use it for their own purposes. Chrysler needs to find a way to make this right for the thousands of Uconnect customers being left out in the cold. They haven't even communicated knowledge of the problem. Doesn't leave me with a very warm and fuzzy feeling.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

Greetings,

I just can not see Apple purchasing HERE from Nokia, unless Nokia lawsuit against Apple has something damaging. Even that lawsuit that Nokia filed, is on shaky grounds (not sure on the current status). If anything, Apple could buy TomTom (TeleAtlas) out now that they fixed a great majority of the map issues and Apple is developing secondary data to be applied to the original map content.

Who ever does pickup HERE, the first priority for platforms is going to be the off-line market which includes the in-dash systems both oe and aftermarket. I see IGO Primo systems and smartphone apps being hi on that list. They do have a huge market in the HERE maps. Garmin could be next depending on the latest PND sales. The smartphone sales between Garmin's apps and their other company, Navigon has been strong lately.

Getting back to the issue at hand, what is FCA going to do?

Based on the recent feedback on everybody's inquires, it seems that FCA/Chrysler is currently not a priority with HERE. Right now their is no way of telling what type of priority this is within FCA. Based on the response from other Forum members it is not. Again, this could be that they consider this a small niche problem and that their is other solutions out on the market. For those who want to maintain the O.E. status, you might have to ride this out for undisclosed time. Which is completely wrong to that to a loyal customer base that many have purchased or have leased many of a Jeep product.

The best weapon right now is for this thread to grow in both reply and views, as it could bolster our drive to get Jeep to provide their position from the upper management and a solution. This also includes the campaign with Facebook and writing physical hardcopy letters. And any reply that somebody gets should be posted on this thread.

Best for now.

The problem is i dont think this even shows as an issue with FCA because the roadblock customer service people are mindless and just repeat its not a chysler function go talk to HERE. So its doubtful its even being put on FCAs charts. Any mechanism to by pass customer service and get the information to the higher people that need to know at FCA is best bet.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

What bothers me the most is that there was no notification when negotiating for the GC of an option that was on the vehicle being 2 years old when the vehicle was built a month earlier and had 6 miles on it. When I asked if all TSB's and software were up to date , I received an affirmative reply. And they were. Technically I guess the NAV maps were 'up to date', just up to date 2 years back.

And I will be giving them their 8.4AN unit back in a bag after I put a hammer through it .......sorry an unexplained voltage spike that requires a new replacement again and again and again and again. They need to fix this problem!!!!!!Yes this is a threat, that I will would never follow through on.
