I installed a Pioneer AVIC8000NEX in my 2013 MX5 PRHT in November. I've already had two map updates. Navteq had me download a program to do that. The unit has a SyncTool that writes the required unit data to an 8 gig flash drive which I then plug into the computer and run the program which finds any new maps available. I can purchase new ones directly through the program and it then downloads the maps to my computer, then installs them on the flash drive. The flash drive is then returned to the car and the SyncTool installs them. I think that I could plug the computer directly into the unit, but I haven't bothered trying that.

For this system, what UConnect lacks is the SyncTool. Whether one can be written for it is another question.

And how is that process (described by you) different from the process currently used for UCONNECT updates ? Download to PC, use a flash drive, stick it into the USB port and deploy the image? Maybe when they designed the system they did not want (for whatever reason) to Sync Tools and just push updates over a base layer but rather to deploy a full image with all the maps?

There's too much conspiracy on this board that is disheartening and discouraging to even follow the subject. I love speculation and gossip like everyone else: that is up to some point.

The lack of mapping updates is not due to HERE or GARMIN but FIAT Chrysler of America

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

Thought I would ad some more to the discussion. I downloaded the Australian and Middle Easy Map updates and looked through the documentation. They are running the 2nd revision (date wise) as to what was released in the NA Jeeps (Some Grand Cherokees have the 2012Q4 Maps instead of the Q2... Quarterly releases by "Here" anyone???)

I have included the instructions from Australia just as some ammunition for your discussions on the FCA side of things. They can say they don't do maps but they certainly have published updates for other regions and this data comes from the same supplier as North America (not naming any names )

Anyway, maps CAN be posted by Chrysler and available for user upgrade. This file was approximately 2.5 GB.

I will continue to pursue other channels...

Thanks Will. Where did you find these updates? Perhaps it is the size of the update as suggested earlier in this thread. Would you know of a way to find the size of the map database we in the USA are running? I've been looking to see how other countries do the updates and about all I found was a thread from last year on an Australian site discussing problems similar to what we are having.

Greetings,

Pioneer use IGO Primo for the nav GPS software and IGO Primo has huge number of it's platforms with HERE. Previous, Pioneer used a horrible platform from Teleatlas and the software was just as bad. The updates can go thru NaviExtras.com or Pioneer, which generators the portal for SyncTool. If I am correct, SyncTool is only for the Windows Platform as of now.

When you go onto NaviExtras.com, you can view the many different platforms that IGO Primo works with for off-line map databases as supplied by HERE. The smartphone app's go thru their respective app stores.

If the problem is with North American Map Database not fitting into the assigned storage of the Uconnect, then they need to rewrite software to load the states as you need them. Member, F1anatic brought up this point a few post back and I even mention this in a different thread. What elements are contained in the Map database, good question?

In this case, Uconnect does not need a portal to mange all the platforms, is not nearly as much as IGO Primo has to deal with.

Thanx anyway for input and please send the complaints in on behalf of your fellow members.

Best for now.

Will they act like we are just completely off the wall crazy people for even mentioning that they need to look into an issue with map updates on a Jeep produced Grand Cherokee. It never makes it anywhere because they just shut it down as something they have zero responsibility for looking into. Im sure that no one above first level customer service even knows this is an issue to people and this is what makes me mad. How do you get it to a level where someone will listen and actually use some common sense?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

Maybe Scott or Milous has some connections or information they could provide on this issue?

Here might be something:

https://www.linkedin.com/pub/lucas-wilson/25/b16/9a9

http://media.chrysler.com/bios.do;js...C83DD?&mid=361

If you look on Linkin, there are alot of them on there so that might help if you really want to bug the hell of out FCA people.

It is a good idea, I have had no luck with my contacts other than knowing that they may push through a customer satisfaction update (Like Australia) but there seems to be no good focus on this.

I will continue to try, but maps is out of my direct reach. Might be something to say that they have removed them entirely from the "Here" site at the time being.

Greetings Willx,

We have a similar list that member 46er found sometime ago and member SnoFire confirmed, plus another key name to that list, the Uconnect office.

The question is are all of these people located at:

FCA
1000 Chrysler Dr, CIMS 485-04-03
Auburn Hills, MI 48326-2766

Besides writing on Facebook, I suggested using a proven technology, the U.S. Postal Service to send in hardcopy letters. Flood them with mail.

2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

This thread has really picked up steam over the last week. The OP has tried in the past with 2 other threads and this one seams finally to gain speed despite the fact their has not be a resolution at hand. It is interesting that HERE changed their status as Product not found.

Once again thank you for being a loyal member here.

Best for now.

I think that is because we are at the 3 year mark on the 2Q2012 map age and that is hitting the point of being ridiculous in a lot of peoples minds. What started as the normal 1-1.5 year lag you have with in dash systems has turned into double that and people being upset that the option they paid a lot of money for not performing correctly especially if you live in a fast changing urban landscape. And now we are going out to buy portable units because of FCAs failing to get involved.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

I just thought of something... Since the 2015s run the same map database type... we could run the scare tactic. The current maps in units being delivered to customer is 2013Q4;20140625

Everyone just go post on facebook that you shouldn't buy a new Jeep or Ram or Chrysler product with a Navigation system because it is not supported and there will never be any updates. I mean based on what is publically available right now (and they can go to Navigation.com and verify this) that there is no and never will be any map updates.

The second you impact new potential buyers. You will get someone's attention.

It would be moderately humorous any which way to see how quickly you can get an "official" response.
