Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

Well this is officially a Sticky now... Feel free to point your external inquiries back at this thread, it is pretty visible! Thanks to 1stJeepGC for the Suggestion.

I think regardless that building up calls, letters, posts (Facebook and other forums too) is a good strategy all around. The more attention this gets the faster answers will come. The Fact that this system is in so many Chrysler Vehicles and soon to be even more, I think that it does matter to FCA what all of your opinions are, I only wish I could do more.

As usually, I am more on the receiving end of the info and have little ability to push upwards (as a single voice). However, looking at the size of this thread... I think we are headed in the right direction.

Anyone who is also involved with RAM make sure to spread the word around!

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

I know a lot of folks are laying the blame on FCA/Chrysler/Jeep for the lack of updates for the 2014+ MY and I agree they should shoulder some of it, but IMO the primary responsibility lies with HERE. They apparently dropped the ball moving from 2013 vehicles to the 2014's and did not get a customer friendly update process that works; that's why all the false starts the second half of 2014. Bad/no communications between Jeep/Harman/HERE? Probably, but I doubt anyone of them will admit it. The units going into the vehicles at build time shows that Harman knows how to install 2 versions of the database, but its most likely not a customer friendly process. Which leaves us with a pretty nice GPS with out of date maps and no operational process to get them updated except, perhaps, ship them to Harman.

No, I can download the updates for these radios and install them with a USB key, that simple. You can verify this with The Aussies that ran their map fix already. 2.5GB install takes a while but it works fine.

I don't have facebook either but I would encourage others to respond to the other fellow's comment. It is serious because Chrysler refuses to talk to customers about map updates for a system that is in over half of all of their vehicles.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

Greetings,

Based upon everything that we know as of today, pressure must be kept on FCA as well. FCA is the owner of the software and the map database, therefore, they must "here" it from us that this practice of procrastinating a proper response and solution does not work in this day and age. Simple as that.

We do not live in a disposable economy any more where can go out a purchase a new vehicle every 2-3 years. Not everybody leases.

In any event, keep the pressure up.

Best for now.

It would be nice if a consumer reporter somewhere would pick this one up.

Can you reveal where and how you downloaded updates? Since I don't use the NAV unit, I use my NUVI instead, I'd be willing to give the 2015 a try on my 2014.

These updates are specifically for regional versions of the RG / RJ Series which are essentially the same radios with different tuner packages. The databases are the same as a Garmin Database, a packaged update loaded to the device including the regions that you want, and some route data. I don't have a newer version of the maps for 2014 or 2015 for North America(either would load to a 2014 or 2015 head unit). I was simply clarifying that there is no issues with the process to update. I know these units pretty intimately, all I was trying to say is that they just need to post the data so people can download and install it. I wasn't even looking at the "will they charge for it" part.

I would focus on Jeep/FCA for sure though. Ultimately they have control over what is released and historically they would provide 1 map update complimentary in these situations.

If it is any consolation looks like the GM side of navigation.com is completely buggered today as well.

Greetings,

I know that their are problems across the GPS map spectrum. It does seam less with the TomTom maps these days.

Regardless of the exact cause of our problem, as you said, we just have to keep spreading the word and to make sure this process does not repeat itself again.

A couple of thousand voices that chime in has a great effect on a corporation.

Best for now.

Greetings,

Great Job.

I would not PM back to Jeep as they requested. We have to keep this in the open.

Other members, if you have Facebook, link onto the post and express your displeasure.

If you do not have Facebook, it is better to send a letter via the U.S. mail.

If you have Facebook, send a letter in by the U.S. Mail anyhow.

For us to succeed, the more voices, the merrier.

Best for now.
