Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

FWIW, map updates on my '03 Infiniti G35C showed up maybe every 2-3 years.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

I also, posted a message on Jeeps Facebook page, the message has been looked at but not responded to.

I also posted a complaint/message on the consumer reports website.

This below, is not what I sent them, but my thoughts as of now. But I sent them something similar.

The nav system was my biggest want/need when purchasing my new to me 2014 Overland. And since I was buying used, I had to pick from the selections on the lots. I originally wanted the Limited but could not find one with the nav. I ended up spending $5,000 over my budget to get the Overland with the nav. Now obviously I got a lot more extras for that $5,000, and love the extras I got, like ACC and Quadra Lift, Hill Start Assist, backup cam, park sense, larger radio screen, leather, body color trim, etc. But main feature that I wanted is out dated, and might be forever.

They have been on a break for some time, it began in 4th qtr 2012

I've been browsing the HERE corp web site and it looks like they do the whole process; preparing all the data in the map databases and then distribution. Any letters/complaints should probably also be going to them.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

I've got a string of communication from HERE that keeps repeating, you've already got all you're gonna get. And FCA keeps backing them up. It's pretty hopeless.

Correction.

They only care about the next system being sold. Once it's in the owner hands, they don't car about it anymore - it's not their problem.

We're a waste of money in their eyes since we're previous customers.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

Just for the record, I don't think it is hopeless. There will be a release at some point, I just don't know when that will be.

As mentioned previously, ALL RA3 and RA4 Radios contain these databases. Unlike nearly all manufacturers at the time these first came out, both large screen displays were capable of having NAV. IF you bought a Cadillac at the same time that did not have NAV, they would need to remove the entire head unit for the upgrade... THAT IS A LOT OF NAV SYSTEMS.

That is a lot of radios AND as far as getting the updates out, they won't be doing that for 2015s or the 2016 RAMs until that system is setup. In a prior post that mentioned "Here" had not official release to sell / distribute these maps and that could still be a possibility. The persons I had contact with at FCA still seemed to think you would get your update through the UConnect site at some point (that was a while ago). I do know FCA has the ability to do this also as mentioned.

Anyway, that is the long winded version of don't loose hope... AND if I get more detailed intel that I can speak of, I will let everyone know.

P.S. and if it magically shows up in distribution as a disc I will see about getting it posted like the good ole days (It will have an activation code, so I need to figure the proper legitimate way of doing that).

Thanks for the info Will. What i dont understand is that if this is a distribution issue it should be easily fixed. Setting up a website and paying for capacity and user volume for multi GB downloads is easy in this day and age, it takes no time at all. So if map data is available, distribution setup is simple then what is their problem? An issue packaging the maps for this setup? If they continue to package newer maps for the vehicles rolling off fhe line should not be an issue their either right. Maybe just shear laziness and no priority being put to it??

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

Few weeks ago I saw that FCA was looking to have a new gps automotive system. At that time the fruit company was clearly identified as the potential provider. If I remember correctly, 2016 was the target date for the new system. So, could the current provider be less interested in making map updates ??? That may be part of the problem.

Few days ago, I saw that FCA big boss was interested in making business with internet or IT giants like Google or Apple but he was not sure which one was the best one to choose. This may be good news for future buyers but again, very bad news for the current units with old maps !

Finally, I had an old Nuvi GPS where I could see rivers and do search with postal codes. In my 2014 GC, I cannot see rivers (didn't find any options to check) and don't have any postal code information. Was the rivers, postal codes, and probably other data removed from the current maps to fit with limited capacity of the system ? I also noted that french pronunciation was really bad compared to my Nuvi that was perfect and street names were often spelled which in not really easy to follow when you are driving the car. Again, they may have removed some data. So, necessity to tailor data to fit our system may also explain why the provider is not really interested in providing us with map updates. Too much work !

To be honest, I really prefered my old Nuvi than the current GC GPS. With the amount of money we give for this GPS, it doesn't make sense at all. We should have a top notch GPS not a ?%$?%$ unit like the one we currently have. The real problem is that we discover these problems only while using it when it's too late !

Having a good integrated GPS is great, not the crap we have right now !
