Lets assume no updates ever come out. And we start changing out our in dash radios, for aftermarket ones that actually have GPS with updates.

Now, FCA will tell us, when we go in for an issue, that it is our fault that we have an issue in the vehicle, because we replaced the head unit, even though it might not even be related.

It just sucks that you buy a vehicle, that you believe should be updated at least yearly, if not constantly with today's technology, only to find out that you are still running 3 year old maps.
I doubt the court would accept assumptions as evidence. If someone uses assumptions, they look like the first 3 letters of the word.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

The way I see it, neither FCA or HERE are contractually obligated to provide us a map update. I can find nothing in any of my paperwork, or ownership literature that states anything more than updates may be made available from time to time. Our expectations have nothing to do with the reality of the situation. What is even more bothersome is the fact that the Uconnect system is such an integral part of the vehicles operational electronics that I don't foresee any aftermarket manufacturers producing a replacement unit that would give us the functionality we'd need to operate all the systems controlled by the OEM unit. I'm sure there are proprietary software and hardware hurdles involved. At this point, we are stuck between a rock and a hard place, and must rely on FCA and HERE's largesse to resolve this issue. And neither one of them seem to project a warm and fuzzy aura.

Obviously Class Action Lawsuits get started all the time, and by someone. And I can pretty much figure out, that if Attorneys do not think it is money in the bank for them, then they usually will not take a case.

What if FCA decided to not update their proprietary software that is needed to diagnose and repair some of our vehicles, and we were left with vehicles that were un-repairable?

This is kind of along the same lines. Sell us something that is common knowledge that Maps should be updatable, but then never allow us to update, or allow us to update it ourselves.

I understand your concern, but my point is a simple one: it is unbecoming to suggest that someone else do a lot of work so you can benefit from it personally. And that is exactly what you are doing. It's really easy to say, "me too!" It contributes virtually nothing. Class actions are complicated, ponderous things. By the time you hear about them, the hard work has already been done.

I used the word assume, as in "what if" no up dates ever come out.

I am not saying lets take assumptions to court.

When did I suggest that someone go start one so I can jump on the band wagon?

My question was about is it possible to start one? I am sure 99.9% of the people on here, do not even know how to begin one, just like myself.

But in no way, did I say "someone please start one, because I am lazy and want to reap the benefits"

Sorry. I must have misunderstood. So, you are going to take this on?

I called for S&Gs, and was told by the HERE rep that he was instructed to tell customers "should be available some time this year"

I couldn't resist. I called too. Same basic answer but I decided to tie up the rep as long as I could. "What do you mean you don't have a date or pricing information? You updated your site just last week to say May 18. Before last week it said product unavailable. What happened in four business days?" Went around and around for about 5-6 minutes.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

I doubt that FCA is getting a lot of pressure for updates, at least numerically compared to the number of units sold. Looking through this thread, while it is long, even here the number of actual participants isn't that large.

My guess is there are a lot of people like me ( God forbid ), who never intend to update the maps. Others have the navigation because it was included in the Jeep they bought off the lot, like their CD players. They never use either. Of those who are vocal and even outraged, at least some just feel cheated because their friend with another make said they have updates available. That doesn't mean they were going to spring for $150 - $200. I'll even bet one wooden nickel that at least one person complaining about the lack of updates doesn't even have navigation.

But, to those who do intend to buy it, I wish you the best of luck. It is a real shortcoming on Jeep's part.

LOL and that's after they just changed their website from maps being ready the 18th to the 20th. They really are a mess aren't they.

I am in one of the groups you describe; the Nav came with the vehicle; I didn't want it , prefer the stand-alone units, and negotiated the price down. I purchased a new Garmin 2 weeks ago and that is my preferred Nav unit; I felt my money was better spent for me doing that instead of for one update. I use the in-dash for around town to find places, but it just does not cut it for trip planning for me. I post on this thread for the principal of it all; just not right for those that really need the updates.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

Seems the JGC folks are the squeaky wheel- lol.

If you look up 2014 JGC then it now says 5/20. But look for a 2014 Durango – still has the 18th. Guess there’s not enough of us complaining to even update the website. LOL

I’m in the camp that It came with the package I wanted. Wasn’t a deal breaker to have or not have. But since I paid a pile of nickels and I have to look at the nav button every time I glance at the radio, it better just work. I’ll even pay but it should be right and 3 years old isn’t right. I don’t want to have to find a mount for my phone (since now it can stay in my pocket as I can text or call easily from the uconnect). I don’t want to have to stick a standalone to my windshield. I want what I paid good money for to work.
