The map update asked for an activation code that was printed on the packing slip.

Well crap.

I guess I won't bother. I'd have to check, but I'm pretty sure my 2015 has maps that are at least that new. I'm sure it will be of help to those with older maps, at least.

It would be nice if they were less than 6 months old, at the very least.

Poor effort at a crazy price. I won't be suckered into getting a Navi system in a vehicle again, that's for sure.

yep- is a little unexpected that it's that old. I was expecting 2014Q4 myself. Really poor execution in this day and age. We're half way through Q2, there's really no reason they couldn't have given out 2015Q1

Bigger picture this is all a giant waste of the uconnect ecosystem. Cell phones update their OS over the air all the time- there's no reason that FCA/HERE/SPRINT couldn't work out a subscription where we pay a couple hundred a year and get periodic updates via sprint in the middle of the night to something akin to quarterly. - Maybe add 5 bucks a month to uconnect's fee and give us a reason to buy that. Of course there could be a download/USB drive option for those outside the sprint coverage area. There's even technology that could allow them to hook up with SiriusXM and broadcast data in the background- for example that's how Directv has updated their set top boxes, including their DVR's at times. There's plenty of examples of hiding data in radio/TV/Satellite signals for such things. I think GM even has rights to a certain amount of data to be sent for onstar via SXm...

this is all just another example of the wasted opportunity that uconnect is

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

So just because I haven't been able to read every post in this thread, would my Nov 2014 build MY2015 GC SRT have more recent maps automatically than the MY2014 guys are upset about in this thread? Or am I in the same boat and will have 2012 data that I need to update?

interesting. They probably have some hash with the vin and the code from the uconnect or something like that.

Smart of them to avoid a giant bit torrent loss.

They are not offering an update for MY2015 right now so my guess is you may already have the 2013Q4 in yours the we MY2014 are now upgrading to. You can double check on your info screen.

Yeah i thought at worst it would have been a year old. They should have made this a free update given the map age all they are going to do is make people angry with date patterns and costs like this.

For that matter, there's no reason they couldn't allow the owner to connect the vehicle to their WiFi connection when it's in range. Then it could do whatever updates are needed as well as send the most recent telemetry to the app.

I have a Dec14 build and it has 2013Q2.
I did notice that the packaging (from the pictures in the previous post) states JGC14-15, that's interesting especially since the software is not 14.25 for the '15s right now.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

I find this even more infuriating than releasing nothing at all. This seems like something they rushed together to try and stem the flow of complaints. Brand new 2 year old maps for $150. Great. I'll stick with Waze.

I figured they might not be 2015 but late year 2014 instead they are from 2013? Seriously what is going on at FCA?
