Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

Finally a response from HERE. Just like the earlier ones. There logo says it all; "Maps for Life". It would appear that means the maps we have, we'll have to use for life. Their response will be forwarded to Jeep customer support.

"Thank you for inquiring about HERE Maps. At this time, the release date of the next update has not been officially announced.

To check the availability of new map updates for your vehicle, please visit www.navigation.com periodically.

If you need additional assistance, please send us your feedback by replying to this email.

Kind regards,

HERE Customer Service
P.O. Box 1588

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

I checked here.com just to see if there main data was even up to date.

It isn't, it's at least 6 months behind. A round about isn't displayed that was finished about 6 months ago. Google maps has it.

So I wouldn't expect your maps to be updated anytime soon.

So you think our current 3 year old maps wont be updated anytime soon? So what 4 or 5 year old maps before we see anything

That makes sense. Google switched to Tele-Atlas a while back to have all platforms equal. They are also stronger for European map data. Don't see how that affects Navteq USA data.

Greetings,

If Google is still using Tele-Atlas map data which is currently owned by TomTom, then they have to be working with them to consistently update the database. At the same token, Apple is in bed since the introduction of Maps with TomTom and have same relationship as Google? It could very well be TomTom established to multiply sets of cartography maps that is purchased by different vendors.

It is very possible that Nokia, which still owns HERE (Navteq) does not have the same resources to maintain the various databases. Being that is the case, it still does not make sense on Jeep's position on letting the loyal 2014+ base be left out in the cold of abandonment. Or the Headunit as some have reported does not have capabilities for the new database and Jeep does not want to admit it.

In any event, it is time for somebody to come to plate from either Jeep or Nokia and finally tell the truth.

Best for now.

I say keep the heat on Jeep and make them fight the battle with HERE. HERE or Nokia could careless about a bunch of Jeep owners squawking at them.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

Greetings,

I agree, the heat must be maintained. I wondering if any of super moderators have any further information they can inform us or have an ear over their in Michigan.

In this day and age you can not leave your customer base in the dark and forgotten. Small things like this have tremendous impact on buying habits that will leave somebody with a negative impression. As other manufactures are trying to maintain a customer service reputation with their own base. I feel in someway Jeep is looking the way of sales and not maintaining relationships. For instance, back in 2011 & 2012 I would get corporate survey's after each visit to the dealer's service center.

Best for now.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

As my last reply to Jeep support I sent them a current satellite screen capture from HERE and from Google Map showing the same location. The HERE map shows a local area that was devastated by TS Sandy in 2013 and nothing is damaged, all homes standing. The Google Map shows the devastation. HERE map is dated 2013, Google Map is dated 2015. I also received the usual survey from Jeep that is sent after you contact support; gave them bad marks and the reason. Even if HERE comes out soon with an update I will pass. The support is just not worth it. I have begun shopping for a new Garmin to replace my 8 year old unit; hoping they have added Birdseye to what is available.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

I have been using this android app for a while called mapfactor navigator which is free and turns your phone into a navigation unit. what is nice is that the entire USA map database (or whatever country you pick) is downloaded onto your phone I think USA is around 2GB so you are not dependent on a cellular connection for the maps while navigating. there are others like this but this one is free anyway every month or so it prompts to download the updated free map database so you are always current. and then on the other side we have the high priced jeep navigation system sitting on 3 year old maps that these two bumbling companies cant figure out how to get a map into it. just makes you want to laugh.. or not . Continue to pepper jeep with complaints the more the better.

Greetings,

I believe this is the most update software Garmin available today:

https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/on-t...rod121762.html

In all honesty, I believe instead of a PND, the smartphone navi apps are the way to go. Between off-line (which I prefer) and on-line, the choices are many and far better. With most PND, you are still stuck with same software, whereas the navi app you get feature upgrades and the important map updates.

Best for now.
