My opinion is that this would have all been standard operating procedure if this had been released in October(or even November or December!). Putting the info onto a flash drive rather than burning onto a disc should not have been technically challenging. Its the same data regardless of the media used.

The seven month delay is baffling. The only thing I can think of is that they found massive issues and bugs during field testing, and struggled to get them resolved.

Our company realizes that people now demand more frequent updates to compete with cell-phone navigation and we are constantly researching ways to achieve this in the future.
I had higher hopes that due to all the perceived technology of the Uconnect unit that they were ahead of us and would be able to issue updates more often and for cheaper costs. In fact the dealership assured me that all software and map updates would be performed for free. I really should have got that in writing.

At least the roads don't change much for me here in LA. I don't really need the update, but considering this is my field of employment I prefer to have the latest data available.

See pics for map version.
This is the same version that comes on the 2015 models. I too am disappointed that they didn't release at least 2014Q2.

Nav maps updates? - Page 8 - 2014 - 2015 Jeep Cherokee Forums

However, this should have the road changes that I am looking for as the construction was completed at the end of 2012. Though the POIs will still be out of date by over a year.

Maybe with this firmware update they will be able to release maps quicker....

Just finished loading the 2013Q4 maps all went fine is about 45 minutes. Just keep an eye on the jeep wanting to time out and shut itself down sitting in run mode that long.

Greetings,

At least your company is in reality.

The cell-phone navigation is also a mix bag in terms of updates. On-line GPS such as Google & Apple are updated daily. Motion X, which is on-line GPS for IOS devices, uses Apple Maps, so their maps are updated daily. My main off-line GPS app, Sygic which uses TomTom, for last 1 1/2 years has updated the maps every 3-5 months so far. I also have navi apps that uses the H.E.R.E database as well. Those databases are updated any where from 7 - 12 months.

As for the in-dash aftermarket headunits, it varies as well. Those that use the Garmin software, I believe they are still on 1 year basis. IGO Primo, which now has strong platform and growing, is also varies and they use H.E.R.E.

Is your company looking into merging the Navigation unit with cellphone similar to IGO Primo's NavFusion technology or what Sygic has done with LandRover, Honda, etc...?

Best for now.

Maybe a dumb question but how do you get the Jeep to stay on long enough to finish the update? I have tried twice it times out and goes off.

And on a similar note, so you can get through a whole movie at the drive-in?

I ran into that also with the update, i had to sit with it and as soon as it times out and goes to off there is about a 60 second delay before it actually shutsdown the power, quickly cycle the start button from the off position back to run during that 60 seconds. Had to go through that twice, maybe there is a better way but i dont know what it is. Just take something to do while you sit there with your jeep lol

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

Why not just start the Jeep and let it run during the update?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

Thanks, I figured it out. Just ignore the instructions. About every 15 minutes, just cycle the ignition from run to off and back to run. As long as you do it quick, there is not interruption and it will eventually finish.

You probably could do that, update takes 45 minutes so would idle awhile but probably would work.

That's how I do Uconnect firmware updates. Especially in winter weather, it's nice to have the heater on.
