Sorry if I wasn't clear, I was talking about the map update.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

On the HERE site today for '14 JGC map update:
"This product will be available in early June. Please check back with us at that time - thank you!"
My update is in the mail, or so they say. I wonder if there are issues with the updates that are already in the wild?

HERE they go again

After managing several IT tech services groups over 37 years, and now living a retirement life, I would hold off installing the update for a couple of months, unless you really need it. If something smells rotten to you, it usually is. Haste usually makes waste

Maybe they are thinking twice about charging $150 for 1.5 year old map data maybe more current data is not far off? Looks like they are going back to those nebulous dates, early June will turn into check back later this summer.

Been using mine few days no issues so far did seem to correct a road i had issue with.

I'm not opening the shrink wrap until I find out what the map date is on the June? release. If it's newer, I'll be returning what they've sent. I'm sure that info will turn up on this thread when, and if, it is shipped.

Unbelievable !

I also have managed large IT projects in my past. We had high quality standards and extensive testing by IT personnel and by a variety of users. Further, we communicated with our customers honestly and regularly.

This project appears to be a political project between Chrysler and HERE - neither communicating with customers honestly.

What does "Early June" mean? What is the "Product"?

My update is supposedly in the mail, but I won't install it until I learn more.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

Earlier, I emailed HERE and described my vehicle and asked if the map update that I just purchased contained the latest map and POI data, the same that my recent Garmin update contained. This is their reply:

"
Map coverage can vary in different vehicle navigation systems and devices. The recent map coverage in your vehicle’s navigation system involves a rigorous process to capture all the latest changes to roads and points of interests. Vehicles have various systems which require extensive testing before a product is released to be installed in each new vehicle. The release process takes between 6 to 12 months to complete."

That was a well written response providing NO ANSWER.
My guess is that the data is 6-12 months old - but maybe my Garmin data is too. I suppose that I will only find out when I load it.

First, let me point out I am not defending Chrysler on any of this... as always, I state the facts as I am aware of them. I can confirm that Garmin's MAP dates on their product releases have absolutely nothing to do with the Map data and as pointed out buy the rather intelligent fellow earlier that POIs etc are newer than the map data. Beyond that though, I can tell you that in Chrysler world the final map build date does include new map data. That is simply the way they work. When they did South America, they forgot Peru for some reason and recompiled with the new map data in there. The first "Q" number did not change even though the route and map data as well as voice data did.

I have included this sample of which I know contains a map update and route data and the compilation data is 2014 yet the Q number is 2 years earlier. Again as seeing actual Garmin Data, they would have called this either 2014.3 or 2014.4 even those those dates are in the future.

For further Proof of this number stupidity I have included my latest update for my Garmin. SURPRISE it is 2015.3 and is Released data from July of 2014 (I guess they need to post some honesty now) but through the miracle of Garmin Science I am able to download 2015Q3 Map from the 3rd quarter of this year NOW (and actually for the last little while). Sorry if that sounds goofy but look at the dates and you tell me all NAV systems are not a year behind or just faking it.

So again, Garmin=Here Chrysler=Here, I am sure the other auto manufacturer is also =Here and I also have access to all the General Motors data. They all arbitrarily assign database numbers and dates that almost have nothing to do with what you guys want to know about.

Mercedes for example uses the Garmin System... or at least used to when I had my ML320. I bought my 2011 Map Data in Late 2010 and it came in the mail!... Must have updated enroute.

So point of the story, get peoples experience with the map update... and as far as I know, June came up because they ran out of stock almost immediately. If they do come up with an update, by all means I agree, get it replaced.

As always, I get as frustrated as you guys with this stuff and the moving target, but you know I have my facts and those are them until they change 15 minutes from now or at the first reply to this post, which ever comes first.

Edit... Oh and since the Android peeing on the Apple incident, Google will also be slowing down their map updates

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

Willx, thanks for the info.

I've been reading your comments since I joined over two years ago and you have always sounded very knowledgeable and level headed. Again, you have a lot of facts as well as insight into the map update process.

I expect to receive my update by Friday. I am now very curious what it contains. I have a simple test. All Maine's interstate speed limits were increased over a year ago. They are correct in my Garmin update around Dec-Feb of this year. I will check that as soon as I can.

Thanks again for your help. I actually feel much more optimistic.

Thank You,

I read a lot more than I write now, and as you know from what I write there is a fine line between giving you guys as good information as I can and getting myself in trouble.

I have seen a lot of the development of the various systems, not only Chrysler. Blame FCA for not getting an update out a year ago and this one being delayed probably a few months more than needed.

I have been running the update you guys are getting Since February and it had a lot of improvements in my travels.

I do want to see what everyone's input is on this update for their local areas.
