Optimally, you'd cache the Internet maps so basically when you drive somewhere you are effectively updating that part of the map.

Greetings,

For IOS, Motion X GPS has a provision to cache the maps. When I tried a while back, it was pretty decent. The cache was to the iPhone. In the other case it would be nice if cache to the OE system somewhere.

Best for now.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

Zactly.

FWIW, Motion X has different versions... "GPS Drive", the one you mention which is driving oriented and caches maps, and "MotionX-GPS" which is more like a hand held GPS and it lets you proactively download maps.

Good stuff.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

Greetings,

Yes, it is GPS Drive. The last software update that occurred was back in September of 2014. They are still using Apple Map database as an option. I use sometimes when I am in a city or in the burb's. With the AppRadio mode, you still have to use the iPhone.

Thanx for the correction.

Best for now.

Greetings,

Out of curiosity, has anybody tested the new map update and have any opinions?

Best for now.
I posted some of my findings a few days ago. I'm going to be driving from the Outer Banks of NC to Raleigh-Durham Intl Airport and will share anything of note, particularly if some inaccurate speed limits have been updated. From what I found by browsing, the update seems to have map data that was generated 12-18 months ago. It seems to be about the same as what Bing Maps currently has. And notice the copyright at the bottom of the maps on Bing: HERE.

Besides that, it seems to work just as well, if not better, than the original map data. If anything, it feels a bit snappier (quicker response), but that could just be wishful thinking.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

Does one have to update the uconnect version if they are at the latest and greatest version for their 2014 already? I believe the one sent is the same but I didn't know if it had a slight modification to allow the map update to work.

You should be good. The instructions say you can skip this step if the versions match.

This also seems to match with another user's experience:

No. If the system reports that it's running the same version as the version on the USB memory stick then you do not need to update it. Mine was on the same version as the USB and the map update completed successfully.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

After the return to May 26 date showed up again, a member on another Jeep forum had this to add:
"To confirm this, spoke to an operator at that 1800 number and said they "pulled the product off the shelves" because there were "major issues" and doesn't expect the product to come back till late June".
I'm going to sit on the copy I received yesterday until more info is available. By the way, the copy I received was all packaged and labeled like it was ready for prime time. Makes me wonder how they ran out so soon, and also, how many were shipped. They certainly must have the production capacity to pump these things out in huge quantities. There is definitely something fishy going on HERE.

Since HERE is stating the update has major issues and was pulled from the shelves im sure they will just automaticly send out new ones to eveyone that already loaded it when the new version is out right? Call me crazy but somehow i doubt that will happen.
