But i'd be curious if it totally died and went back to the "accept" screen.
Was probably about 20 minutes, i had left the jeep. It didnt prompt for anything when resuming a solid white screen came up and then the loading bars showed up and just continued.

I've got to admit, that's surprising. Sounds like a power time out isn't a problem. Wonder what the "issues" HERE talks about are.

Ha! They probably expected the depreciated value in a year to be below the cost of the update, so people who wanted new maps would just get a new vehicle. Probably not a bad assumption for the diesels.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

I did an eight hour round trip this weekend with no UConnect issues. The maps are updated, but not perfect.
  • It seems like the map data comes from Q2 or so of 2013. A change to one portion of I-540's speed limit that was changed in Feb 2013 was reflected on the update, while a similar change done in September 2013 was inaccurate. Figuring in a potential delay on the data getting from NCDOT to HERE, the 2013Q4 label on the map data seems pretty reasonable.
  • The geographical features of the map seem to have improved greatly. I notice a big improvement of the sharpness of the coastline and the elevation: I'm no longer driving in water as I go up NC-12!
  • For some reason, HERE is missing the Exit 558 ramp from eastbound US-64, both on our update, but also apparently in general (BING). As far as I can tell (Google Earth history), the ramp was part of original construction. Just seems like an odd glitch/omission.
Oh well, just a few more specifics if you're interested!

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

The part numbers are different from what I ordered to what what is available now. The odd part is the number went down.

From My Invoice:
U3562-0060-504

Todays Update:
U3559-0060-504

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

I see the same with the order I received. Wonder if the dates are different? If someone buys and installs, I hope they post what shows in their system information.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

Yes be good to understand if they are newer maps or just a change to the instructions concerning the timeout issue

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

So what is the consensus (I'm still unsure after 10+ pages ), other than HERE kinda sucks.

Is it worth the 150 bucks for the "pros" of the update. I've not had any serious issues in terms of driving, but there are some WTFs that pop up but luckily those are in town and I know better.

I got on-line with HERE. I asked about the two different item numbers. It took the lady a while to get back to me.

According to her, the item number listed on the web site is a general item number. The U3562 number that I purchased was the specific item for the VP4 system in my vehicle.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

I remembered that I had done a screen capture when I ordered my map update on 5/20/15. It did list the same item number as shown on the web site today "U3559...". The later order confirmation showed "U3562..."

I guess that's something everyone will have to determine on their own. Personally, I have no regrets buying the update. It seems more accurate locally. I won't be getting on the road for a couple of weeks, I'll know better then. $150 ain't what it used to be. I can go through that in a couple of nights out.
