Unhappy No Request Code

Has anyone had an issue where there is no request code displayed? I just had the radio replaced today for the problems mentioned below (nav & 911 failure after 30-45 minutes of driving). Even though I asked the dealer to help me transfer Sirius and make sure the activation code would work for the map update on the new radio, they did neither. Was able to transfer Sirius fine. I was going to call Here to see if they would give me a new activation code for the new radio, but the Request Code spot is completely blank under System Information.

Also, judging by stored favorite phone numbers, etc, this appears to be a refurb unit. Interestingly, the included map data is older than where I started off; now back to 2011Q4...

I noticed the clock stopped updating, so I rebooted the system (Mute + Enter) and now the GPS is way off. I think when the phone went out, it also lost GPS and switched to dead reckoning. After the reboot, it seemed to think it was back earlier in the route and then started moving on the map relative to how I was driving, but still way off. I checked the GPS signal strength on the "Where am I" function, and it shows no signal. I see there are some threads about that, so I'll take a look around. No one else had this problem after the update, did you?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

I just got a call from a HERE representative. They told me they are sending me a replacement map today and told me to return the map they sent and I have to pay the shipping. It take them almost a month to get them to respond. Let's hope the replacement will work this time. I will keep the situation updated.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

My Gosh ! YOU have to pay the shipping. Chrysler/Jeep should be ashamed of this circus. I sure hope they read this forum. 68 pages long and still going strong.

I think you should talk to your dealership or even Chrysler with this problem. You paid the full amount for a new unit and you are getting a refurbish unit is total wrong.

Thanks. It was covered under warranty, so I didn't pay for it. I don't mind: there are no visible scratches, and it seems to work fine, save the Request Code (and UConnect Access, but that's another story...that I really don't care about). I've got an E-mail in to UConnect Customer care, so we'll see. I have a nagging suspicion that the radio wasn't properly linked to the VIN.

So they sent the wrong map and take way too long to figure it out. Then tell you to pay shipping? That's not what I call good customer service.

I'd tell 'em to shove off if they want you to return the old maps on your dime.

There's no reason why you should have to return anything. All they need to do is just deactivate the code the old maps came with so they can't be used.

It's not like sending someone a household appliance where they would service the bad one and sell it as a refurb to warrantee customers.

Then again, there's no reason they should be sending you anything. This should be a download with a code sent via e-mail.

That's the way they should update all of us that don't require the DVD.

Then again, with as behind the times everything about this update seems to be, I'm surprised they don't require you to pay with a certified check or money order.

It's like they have no idea this is 2015.

"Wait, we can use this internet thing to send files and messages instantly? Gosh, what will they think of next?"

I was pretty psyched about getting the latest update until I realized that it offered so little value to anyone that had the previous "latest" maps.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

Hello,

I finally found that the GC Uconnect 8.4AN RB4 system is really a Garmin based unit. From that Garmin link you can get the map updates.

https://auto-update.garmin.com/auto-update/

So our GPS should be as good as other Garmin GPS ! I was not convinced till I found that I can have 3 routing options from which I can pick the one that seems the best one to me. Believe me it's worth trying and we get much less frustrated.

This gives much more more value to the Charger forum post explaining how to do a free map update.
