Greetings,

Our fellow member 46er, with their fine research found the link to the department heads. Now it we need to just find some way to confirm that most of these folks have an office at 1000 Chrysler Drive. Plus a copy sent to the legal department general make it's way up the food chain. I think their address is somewhere mentioned in the Lemon Law links.

Best for now.

1stJeepGC, perhaps a phone call to the number you posted, to ask if say, Michael Manley, will receive mail addressed to that location, and what is his mailing address.

Greetings,

Good one.

I would also try to confirm Matt Liddane from Quality Control and Marjorie Loeb from the Legal Department. And of course, the Chairman of the Board.

I suggest when mailing, try use a red manila envelope. On most GPS systems, PND, in-dash and smartphone, the warning of inaccurate GPS signal comes up in red. This would be a nice symbolic statement, even through their is no color warning for out of date maps.

I am think of nice cover letter that would get Jeep to write to HERE and have Jeep post the response here on the forum. Something along those lines.

Best for now.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

another place people could consider posting this is on the JEEP facebook page. I don't have facebook but some of my google searches have found there way to jeep faceboook pages. jeep appears to be responding to some of these posts with answers. I think things robably get noticed quickly on there because so many people read facebook and they don't want bad negative things showing there that they don't respond to. anyway just an idea for any with facebook I know im probably one of the few in the world that could careless about facebook lol

You are not alone, I feel the same way about facebook, but created an account anyway with absolutely no info and a throw-away email address. Heck I don't even own a cell/smart phone I doubt a post from that account would be taken seriously I've been thinking of contacting local 'I have a problem and need help' TV reporters just to get some TV time. NY & Philly stations have pretty big viewing audience's I do know that a Jeep support person reads and responds with real help to posts on another Jeep forum. Have not seen one on this site. Perhaps a moderator could invite one over.

The other factor that backs this up, is the research that member SEEINGWHITE has done. This member here strongly believes that the 2014 units were under powered in terms of processor speed and storage. The 2015 units most likely had a storage increase to compensate for the 2015 map data. So the question now for the 2015 base, is the storage big enough to handle any map data increases?

If this is the case amount the physical storage being the issue, I do not see FCA presenting a solution. The only 2 solutions to this problem then is the PND's such as Garmin or TomTom. With 2nd solution being your smartphone tied into a lock pick system.

Best for now.

Really bro ? The physical size of HDD issue is a non-issue. The solution is to make two discs or two images like how back when NAVI was run from DVDs: USA West and USA East. Or they could stop loading Canada and Mexico - so no North America map. Or they could simply give the end-user the ability to upload maps by state, individually. Or give the end user the ability to control the level of details (i.e. 3D map data) by state.

Realistically, none of us need more than 2-3 states worth of maps at any given time (I live in IL and I only need WI and IN unless I plan a longer trip in which case uploading additional maps is a few minutes - this is the case with my OFF-LINE Subaru Navi, phone and tablet maps - why upload more maps than needed ?). And same with 3D maps. if you live in NYC you surely don't need 3D map data for San Fran. Nobody really needs 3D data and nobody really needs 3D data for anything but their home state. Which regardless, is limited to just the business district and a few mountains and attractions here and there.

Greetings,

Between Facebook and letters via the US Mail, this certainly should get somebody's attention.

Greetings,

Personally, the map update does not effect me at all. In fact, I have the North America maps and I only load the states that I travel too. After being used to PND and in-dash GPS system, I thought the smartphone would be weak as compared to a tablet. After playing with several different apps I really like Sygic off-line app the best. The 3D terrain is really great while I am on the highways especially at night. The details are becoming more realistic. Not so much as topo map for the mountains. I could not be more happier with the smartphone as the GPS. And that is my personal opinion.

What really bothers me () about the map update situation, is that my fellow Jeep owners that have the 2014 Grand Cherokee are stalled out. Almost 3 years for an update. In last 2 years here in the forum how many threads about the inquiry for an updated map. How many complaints about wrong information on the map. POI that is way out of date. It goes on and on in various posts.

In this day & age of technology their should be a solution to get an update. Somebody is planning a trip and the in-dash system can not get them their. Then why have one to begin with. What is going to happen with the 2015 owners down the road? The same thing. Moreover, since this is my first Chrysler/Jeep vehicle that I have purchase to date, is this problem across the board?

You have an excellent solution that will work. (I was just thinking about loading data from a cassette player onto my Radio Shack TRS-80 Model 1 back in 1977 ) It is a tried and true method that works. However, I do not see the Uconnect division of FCA rewriting the code to handle this. Really, it not much code that has to be done. As for HERE providing the map data in that format, that is unknown at the present time.

Speaking about HERE which I still believe is still owned by Nokia, as mention a few post back, do they have the fiscal resources to provide the manpower to update the various platforms that rely their map data products. This could be an issue as well and has to be considered.

Regardless of what really is the problem that is now going shortly on it's 3rd year, how come a real answer can not be provided. Granted, this might concern only a small "NICHE", is does effect others as well. It still amazes me how other car manufactures are upping their multimedia systems and some providing alternate connections for GPS besides in-dash.

So, if can help my fellow JeepGarge.org members express their outrage and help get them answers and solutions, I have no problem lending my time and assistance in this important matter. Some members here, In the past I have strongly disagreed with or they have disagreed with me. I could not stress the importance of your suggestion and you should write in as others are being to do so. Your voice counts just as equal to the next person.

End of Rant.

This is true and now there is a app for smart phones from "HERE". I think that HERE is associated with Navteq map wise since Nokia owns both. It has all up to date maps and can be used online or offline if one download the maps needed. I have it on my phone (with global licence) and offline future works great in places w/o cell signal, only thing needed is a GPS signal. It uses 3-D mapping with millions points of interest.

Greetings,

I know about it, but I never tried it. After trying over 6 apps, I finally went with Sygic after the 2nd try. Even through is not AppRadio compatible, I use it via mirroring and I fine with that way.

As to HERE, they have many platforms that they have to support and they say their fiscal sound, I am still not sure. And this could be one of the problems.

BTW, if you in some way help your fellow members, they would be appreciative.

Best for now.

True, but it is the only other map service in pair with Google that offers digital maps. I don't think the number of platforms was the problem but licence requirements it was what hold them back on cell phone market until recently, as opposite - Google maps are all included and free with Android. They still provide close to 80% of the navigation software to automotive industry but not for long, or at least not like part of Nokia - HERE will be for sell soon, thus Nokia can focus on the networking business.
I think that does't hurt to give it try - if you don't like it - uninstall it. I personally was sold on the offline future and the ability to download maps based on my route and deleting them after the trip. It is big plus when you travel outside of NA - you still have GPS signal on your phone but the data signal is not 100% compatible with your phone (if you are using NA phone), or if you using prepaid sim card it cost arm and leg.
