Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

Ok, so thinking about buying the update. I know the value of the update varies between customers, but if I bought my 2014 two years ago, the maps on the update should be at least a year newer right?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

it seems at some point the update was supposed to have come out in the fall of 2014. In theory there's an update each year?

If that holds true and they already figured out all the kinks then possibly there would be a newer update this fall?

That's what's keeping me from buying at the moment.

Hi All,

For those who had purchased and updated their maps, what's the map version included in the update?

Thanks.

2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

First quarter 2014
Gmapprom.img. Date of 1/7/2014
POI. 11/26/2013. With dealership file 8/4/2014

I called HERE to discuss the dates on files were a year and a half old. And was told: it was very time consuming and it took that long to get all the data, I said that date was when the file was last edited, not when created. The HERE rep said I'll give you an RMA code.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

This will be as brief as I can make it. I finally got my GPS map update in, for my 2013 JGC.Two SD cards, a USB stick, and two sets of instructions that contradicted them selves. I started to do it three different times, but it was so complicated I could not pull it off. Took all the crap to the dealer and asked if they could please do it for me. They said yes, bring it in tomorrow 8 am. Was there at 8am, they drove me home. Said only a few hours would do it. 2 o'clock that afternoon they finally called me to say it was done. The guy that does all the electronic installations and repairs just shook his head. He said he was on the phone with HERE 3 different times trying to figure it out. He told me he has done a lot of map updates but nothing like this. Also said He did not believe I could have done it myself. His previous experience helped get him through it. Download info from the jeep, take it to the computer and plug the SD card into the HERE site using the USB stick, get authorization code and other info, go back with the two SD cards and try to download the maps after you download what you got from the internet !!!!!!! What a bunch of crap. But hey its done. The dealer only charged me $40 bucks but could have charged me more. Actually I didn't care what he charged me .It is accurate for I tested it on a new stretch of highway that was not on the old GPS and all it well. SO....with a total of over $200 with the tax and shipping, that's a rip. The guy at the Chrysler Dealer told me they really did not seem to know what they were talking about at HERE. He asked them if they really thought the public was capable of doing the update themselves and he was told hopefully the customer would take it to their Dealer for installation. WOW!

wow- that sounds like a totally new system they've invented.

What date shows in the radio's info screen database now? I wonder if you got something newer than before since it's a new method.

Hey Paul,
Like Michaelk, I too would like to know your map date.
I am about to order mine and do not want any bogus version if it can be helped.

Cheers

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

It's far too convoluted for a stupid map update. Got to love the genius that came up with this.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

The update for my '14 was pretty straight forward, even though it was kind of outdated when it arrived. I wouldn't even bother if it was as complicated as it was for Paul. Hopefully this infotainment/navigation technology being built into vehicles becomes much more user friendly by the time I'm ready to trade my Jeep in, or at least better aftermarket solutions become available. Someone's got to get this right sooner or later. The tech is certainly available, it just needs a much better integration solution.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

On the "ABOUT" page that I bring up, it gives unit I.D #, model RHB15, (it did say RHB13) before the update, software version 5.11, text version 5.11, and GPS 4.15.06. That's the only info on the page. NO map version. I was disappointed for I thought the maps would look different but it looks exactly the same. I guess that's the way it is? I was happy that we had a major change on one of the highways in Northern Va. that I could drive to and make sure the maps were current and they are. I got the current (NEW) direction and speed limits. JAKO, I feel the same way you do and hope in a few years when I am ready to trade up these problems will be worked out. I definitely know I will never update again in this vehicle.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

ohhhhhh you have an RHB radio- not a Uconnect 8.A?

RHB has hard button rows and knobs on the sides if i recall correctly.

The uconnect radio is a giant 8.4inch touchscreen with just a couple buttons and knobs underneath.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

It only has one knob to turn it on or off, and buttons on both sides only. Its the premium sound with 11 speakers, 5000 capacity song memory, satellite, travel that gives you any theatre in the area you are in, what's playing, start times, address and shoots you over to GPS instructions on how to find it, plus all the Gas, Hospitals, and many, many, more features. Seems like a good radio but that's probably what they put in the 2011's and 2012's. It seems like the 13's were just something they had to produce to fill in the gap between the 2014. Its basically a 12 with the 5 speed and minor changes. Production time was very limited. Yes I know someone with a 14 and the screen is bigger. . I don't know what U connect is but it does call it a U Connect system in the manual. If that's the phone (blue tooth) it does have all that. Oh well, I used it over the weekend and it did work very well getting me where I needed to go with the new updates. MY $200 UPDATES !!!!! LOL! I guess that one will always stick in my craw.
