On a recent trip it would've had me go WAY out of my way had I not known the route beforehand. There should be a way to look up the route that the NAV will use on a PC before you go to plan the trip.
Of, even better, would be if you could export the route you plan out as a standard gps route file and simply load it up off a memory card or USB drive, like I can with my Garmin.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

Hi,
On the 2014 MAP Update USB drive, there are several folders on multiple levels. At least one is the major executable to install all of it.

The main folder is almost 4 GB and the actual maps folder contains 517 files for Canada, Mexico and USA.
I will try to attach a folder listing of that.
Enjoy

That's quarter 4 2013 in the directory name. I'm uncertain if a newer update will even occur for 2014's.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

There will probably be an update for the '14, eventually. I'll probably be looking at a new vehicle by then. The obsolescence of vehicle media electronics is in such an accelerated state these days, in a few years we won't recognize the dashboard.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

Just downloaded HERE Maps off line App and all the maps I want for android FREE. Better and more up to date and more accurate than anything I have seen on my 2014 GC summit . FCA and HERE treat us all like crap when they (HERE) can do this. Check it out on Google Play Store , search HERE. I know they now can track me and sell me stuff but that is the price for free maps but at least it guides you in the right direction.

I've been using either Google maps or a program called "Navigator" on Android far more than my built in GPS.

I use Google when I want to go somewhere that doesn't have a specific street address since it's easy to call it up on voice search and hit the navigate button. My Jeep GPS always needs a street address. I can't just have it navigate to a town or a landmark that isn't in the list of landmarks.

I use Navigator when I ride my motorcycle because it has more planning features to allow me to take roads that are more motorcycle friendly instead of interstates. Navigator is free with ads, but also has a paid version that uses TomTom maps. For the amount I use it, I stick with free since it works fine.

Navigator is a good app, I use it also when ever I am on travel. one thing I like about it is it downloads the entire USA (or whatever country) map data base onto your phone, nearly 2GB so if you ever are not in cell range it still works just fine. It also updates maps constantly so no sitting on old maps like the dash unit. Not bad for free

Bottom line is when the same company, LOOK, can give away their data base free and then once it is jammed into your Jeep it's $150.00, coupled with the maps being way out of date is CRIMINAL. I am still trying to figure out how I got swindled. Maybe I will try my uconnect GPS to guide me straight to turnip factory for falling for this. This is unbelievable. I would pay for a decent update at a resonable price any day (50 to 60 bucks max) but $150.00 for old maps?????

It is ridiculous but that $150 is actually on the lower side, some manufacturers can get $200-$400 for them. I got the 2015 update but I wont be updating every year unless they drop the price down. When we are spending what we do for these NAV systems they really should cover maps for a period of time, say maybe the same amount of years that powertrain is covered for then let people start buying them themselves after that. to think you would have spent $750 on map updates during that time period just because you want the unit you paid thousands for to work accurately is a bit asinine IMO.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

Well I updated my maps this week, because the out of date maps were becoming a terrible hazard- routing me on nonexistent exits and roads. Unfortunately the update still didn't include the changes to the exits and bridges near my relatives. I'm bummed that here is so slow to update the map data and Chrysler refuses to put pressure on Here. I guess we'll see if Here can actually produce a product worth buying. I'd much rather pay a hacker $100 to unlock the map update than let Here get my money again if Here cannot produce timely updates. Here does not deserve to profit off of such junk and Chrysler should be ashamed that their nav system cannot be updated in a timely manner.

FCA and a a couple of other auto manufactures already own HERE. There is no need to pressure HERE, instead just make it happen. Give us great accurate up to date maps at a resonable price. Not that difficult.
