As a result, the informational data is always not current. The initial build data will show an old year with some updates with a closer date stamp. This is why their is a large discrepancy between dates with the new MY16 and recent MY15. This is the way HERE (formally Navtag) has operated over the years.

On the other hand for those who had off-line map databases from different manufactures other than FCA, that used the TomTom data, you get updates that are more current and frequent to the present time. This also includes both off line and on line services.

Both HERE and TomTom provide the market share of off-line map databases and their first priorities are to their dedicated systems such as the portable GPS market and more importantly the smartphone apps. In order to get the most reliable updated data map, at least in the USA, is the on-line services of either Google or Apple Maps.
You are probably correct here, but I do want to point out that I have three vehicles with GPS, one HERE, one Navitec and one Tom-Tom. The Tom-Tom system comes out with weekly updates that can be downloaded to your computer and installed in the vehicle. The maps seem to be the most accurate of the three. The Navitec system has a primary update annually with some downloaded fixes through the year, not map fixes, but system fixes. Then we have HERE.

Greetings,

Yes, you are correct. What I forgot to say is that with my GPS via the smartphone, my version of Sygic uses the TomTom maps for their off-line map database. I get updates anywhere from 2-3 months. Whereas, IGO Primo, which I also have for my smartphone, they use HERE. Those updates are anywhere from 10 to 12 months.

The perfect GPS system would require a miracle.

Best for now.

November 2016 max. Like thsi November at the latest, but most likely sooner. their window for new updates is 12-18 months from the last one. And that was May 2015. So it could be anytime between now and November.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

I have been awaiting the new HERE map updates for the NAV system. Making a short chat with the Support tab right on the website I was told the following:

Quote:
Austin 6:42 PM:
Thank you for chatting with the Navigation Center. My name is Austin, please allow me a moment to review your message, and look up your information.

Austin 6:42 PM:
How can I help you?

Phil 6:42 PM:
Hi Austin. Thanks for the help. I have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Looking for the North American Map update for Uconnect 8.4AN (RA4) Navigation System.

Austin 6:44 PM:
Alright, you are looking at the current update. That was released in May 2015. We usually have an update available to order up until a newer one gets released, so this one is up, but you should know we're expecting a brand new version within a few weeks.

Phil 6:45 PM:
I greatly appreciate the info. I would like to wait for the latest update. Should I be seeing that sometime this fall then?

Austin 6:46 PM:
We were actually supposed to have it in August, so we expect it pretty soon.

Phil 6:47 PM:
Ok. So the best thing is to check back periodically on the order site?

Austin 6:49 PM:
Yeah, it should soon be updated, it won't say "2015", it'll say "2016" or "2017" depending on how they name it.

Phil 6:49 PM:
Ok. Great. Thanks again Austin. You have a wonderful day.

I don't know....

If I could get Google maps on my dash screen, that would be pretty much perfect to me. My only complaint with it is having to use it on my phone instead of the nice big screen and car speakers.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

Don't hold your breath on anything that HERE says those people had no idea what they were talking about when we were waiting for the 2015 update last year to the 8.4 uconnect maps. The whole thing of them saying it would be out in a month or a few weeks went on for almost a year it got to be a complete joke every time they came out with a new date. hundreds of posts on this and people fuming and writing letters to FCA. guess we will see what happens this go around but since they said this august that probably means next spring. go back and read some of the posts on how heated this map update thing got.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

In my 2014 Summit, the system is very outdated. It still thinks all 70 MPH roads are still 65 and does not even have landmarks in it that are major ones and have been there for years. It kills me to spend $150 to update it every so often when I can buy a Garmin with lifetime updates for around $300 or so! My pet peeve that I have discussed before is that I will plan a trip on my PC ahead of time and have the best route in mind then when I actually take the trip, the NAV takes me a completely different way. I would like to plan a trip on a PC via Google maps, Bing maps or Mapquest that would take me the same way as the NAV.

That's really what irks me more than anything. There are so many far cheaper solutions that include free or very low cost updates, it's ridiculous to have to pay 3-4 times the cost for the hardware that comes with outdated maps, then have to pay even more (far more than most paid updates for other GPS options) for maps that are still 6-10 months behind reality.

If the maps that came with my Jeep were within a few months of being current and the releases were within a month or two of being current when they come out, I probably would have less of an issue with all of it.

It's very frustrating feeling like I spent money for a product I didn't get.

I'd be happy if the system at least gave you more options regarding routes when there's more than one good way to get somewhere. Being able to set some waypoints to force the route you want would be even better. Being able to plan a route, save it as a GPS route file and load it up off a flash drive would be the ultimate.

Yep.

I went from excited about the update to completely turned off by the whole thing. I'm now at the point where, short of the option to use any GPS system I choose, I will never pay extra for a built in navi system again - especially not on a Jeep.

At this point, the best thing they could do for me is allow me to mirror my phone on the dash screen.

Not only $150, there is shipping on it too. Especially in today's day and age of high speed internet that there is NO download option.

All the stand alone GPS system offer downloadable map updates, but these "guys" still work like it is 1970...
